While I wouldn't go quite as hype-fueled hyperbolic as Mitch Worden, I'll still go pretty far: this bests the new Gorguts EP ("Pleiades' Dust") for tech-death release of the year. It's all about the dysphoric acid jazz. It's what sets First Fragment apart. It's what other tech-death lacks. It's what death metal in general needs: a contemptible dose of schizophrenic uninhibition. This album knows no boundaries. Its absurd circus menagerie of off-kilter crushing riffs has already broken every conceivable wall of established genre conventions into a thousand vomitous fragments of ear-dizzying French nausea.

Fuck it. This is First Fragment wiping the floor with modern techdeath/extreme metal and
fucking eviscerating any and all competition. This album gives you all you ever wanted from
First Fragment and shatters every single expectation. Memorable riffs for days, simply
incredible musicianship... god damn this is just incredible. I don't give a shit what
everyone else is going to say, this is THE album to beat this year.
E: Ah, to be in 2016 again. This was the first vinyl I ever bought, and it still rips harder
than most bands.

First Fragment is a quebecois neoclassical tech death band - I wonder what their influence is!!! Their technical proficiency sometimes tend towards the weedly, but the pristine production at least allows the rhythmic section's fullness and warmness to shine.

A brilliant example of what good tech-death is. First Fragment combine Death Metal, prog and a strong neoclassical sense of melody with occasional classical guitar and jazz sections for an overall brilliant album. One of moder tech-Death?s best for sure.

It isn't as good as everyone thinks, 4.1 tops. There are many brilliant moments, but there are several that make it drag on a bit. Definitely not better than Pleiades Dust.
