3.5 great | MegaResurrectedJake4 | May 23rd 16 | No Architects release as of yet had wowed me on first listen, but this did. It isn't necessarily that the album doesn't have its flaws - like most other Architects albums, it suffers from sounding a bit too similar throughout. The atmospherics and vocals blend in a way that make many tracks sound similar to one another. But that doesn't change the fact that they sound awesome, to me at least. What elevates this release above their others for me is the rhythm. Its more accessible, but its catchier and it prevents blandness in the verses. Many of the verses sound like builds, and almost all of the songs build to satisfyingly climaxes, where they're composing more and more melodies on top of one another. The end result is feeling swept up in the tracks the whole way through, gradually getting more and more enveloped by the atmospherics. By the time the last three tracks arrive, the lyrical content of the album has sufficient traction in my head to have me along for the lyrical ride of the last few tracks. Memento Mori closes it hugely, and perfectly.
Its possible the early high rating could drop, but I doubt it. I basically think Architects have been building to this, and they nailed it. Real happy they allowed themselves to be more accessible and drop some of the chaos to focus on melody and message. Hard to see me not jamming out pretty consistently to a bunch of tracks. Phantom Fear, All Love Is Lost, and Memento Mori hit me hardest on first listen.

4.0 excellent | Trey STAFF | November 28th 16 | I’m going to be honest. When I first heard All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, I wasn’t too impressed. It was basically melodic semi-progressive keyboard-driven metalcore. I appreciated the cool use of keyboards, but most of the songs kind of blended together due to similar vocal melodies on every song. What initially kept me coming back at all was the song “Gone With the Wind”. That was the song where all of Architects’ musical pieces came together perfectly, and I kept coming back to it. It never compelled me to bother with the rest of the songs, though. That incentive came with the death of their guitar player and primary songwriter, Tom Searle. People were talking about the songs on this album being tied to his battle with cancer, and it got me curious. After a few listens, the subtle differences really started presenting themselves and eventually I was sold on the entire album. That’s not to say that there isn’t a lot of similarities between the songs, but additional listens should reveal each song’s unique features.

3.0 good | blackmetalhipster | October 15th 20 | This definitely contains good songs, but it lacks in any creativity or distinct feeling. The only way in which this differs from being just 11 more songs that could've been on Lost Forever//Lost Together is the slightly cleaner production

4.0 excellent | kalkwiese | November 17th 18 | This is the first time this band did the same thing again and that's forgiveable tbh. Most songs on this are excellent, so there was still some room for exploring this sound further.

4.0 excellent | Risodo | February 10th 18 | "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" is the most complete and competent album from Architects. Breakdowns are fantastic and the songs are explosive in their definitions from start to finish. It's sad to know that someone as talented as Tom Searle is gone so soon. No one should die at the age of 28.

3.0 good | ThisIsTheApocalypse | June 21st 17 | While there are certainly some strengths in this record (between the very passionate and ferocious screams/yells and the really nice drum fills) there are certainly some major drawbacks as well. As Andrew so well stated, this does at times feel like formulaic ear candy. Tracks do very little to differentiate themselves aside from the opener and closer, the former being the most notably vicious track and the latter having some really nice keyboard flourishes. That being said, metalcore a la Sempiternal style is hardly terrible, but Architects is a band that could do better.

5.0 classic | SlowlyFallingAwake | November 2nd 16 | Darker, heavier and more complex than any of their previous offerings, "All our gods have abandoned us" pulls in the listener from the get-go. Lyrically, this album comes out on top of the game. With a variety of themes ranging from greed, selfishness, compassion, ignorance, religion and politics, Architects reinvent themselves by perfecting their strong characterists while improving the areas where they lacked. Never for one second did I think they could top their last record, but this one blows it clean out of the water. Album of the year for me, perhaps my favorite of all time. Undoubtedly the tragic death of Tom Searle, lyrical genius of the band, casts a shadow over the current success of the band and its future. It is my biggest hope they continue to pave the way in metalcore.

4.5 superb | ZodiacalWolf | September 30th 16 | If anything, Tom Searle left us while he was still at the top of his game.
Bump |
4.0 excellent | Alabaster Jones | September 26th 16 | Architects, at least for me, makes some of the best angry music around. Not necessarily incredible, but enough breakneck speed, relentless aggression, and passionate vocals to satisfy vexation. All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is similar, but is also loomed over by a cloud of uncertain melancholy. Some of the lyrics here betray a sense of unease about the future and begin to question thoughts that had up until this point remained unchallenged. Tom Searle, the guitarist who wrote these songs and lyrics, undoubtedly felt these feelings. He was battling cancer at the time of recording, and he eventually succumbed to the disease in August of 2016. The unfortunate passing of Searle gives an entirely new meaning to the record, echoing the weeks before and after the release David Bowie's Blackstar and Bowie's untimely death. The closer, "Momento Mori", is particularly moving in this regard. It's another on the unfortunately ever-growing list of albums marked by death.
Bump |
3.5 great | Kronzo | June 8th 16 | Architects's new album, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is a very technically proficient release. The production is great, taking atmospheric cues from Northlane's Node and Singularity. There's also challenging riffing reminiscent of their 2009 effort, Hollow Crown, and perhaps a bit of August Burns Red. There's a bunch of sections with vocals that land somewhere between clean and harsh, and they can become a bit grating when they go on for too long. Closer "Memento Mori" was definitely the highlight of the album with excellent use of synths and overall dynamics. The rest of the songs range from acceptable to great. I'd definitely recommend this to fans of the genre, it's a solid album, but it'd be nice to see them sonically branch out more in the future.
Bump |
2.0 poor | JimIntegrity | May 28th 16 | The first single really didn't excite me at all, it sounded like a B-Side to 'Lost forever//Lost together and the album is pretty much that. I wouldn't be surprised if these songs were conceived around the same time as that album. They use the same riff and sample on pretty much every song and the vocals really start to grate on me by the end. There are some good song, Nihilist for one but nothing sticks out for me.
Bump |
4.0 excellent | AmbushReality | May 26th 16 | Definitely a solid record, but what holds the album back is the tendency of several tracks to seemingly run together. While the singles stand apart very well (Match Made in Heaven and Gone With the Wind are superb), quite a few cuts are remarkably similar to those with "filler feel" from their last effort, Lost Forever//Lost Together. To be frank, a combination of the highlights from LF/LT and this album would be metalcore masterpiece, but the filler tracks on both (and the lack of any bit of progression here) is holding Architects back from ruling the metalcore genre.
Bump |
3.0 good | DerElefant | May 24th 16 | Most of this album sounds like LF/LT Part 2 or rather like b-sides to it.Looking at the vocal melodies, the only songs that reach the quality of LF/LT are "Gravity" and "From The Wilderness".
