You can hear the thrashy influences on here and it all just sounds absolutely filthy beyond rbelief. These riffs hit harder than my stepdad, lemme tell you.

This album more or less is essentially Reign in Blood in the form of powerviolence. If you watched
the making of the album, Todd Jones (vocalist/guitar) made it apparent as to how much he loves
Slayer which was a primary influence for their sound here. As usual they have a really gnarly
buzzsaw guitar tone with riffs that will positively SLAP YOUR SHIT. They're more mid-tempo and
will get your head fuckin' banging itself clean off. On top of that, the solos are pretty
reminiscent of Jeff Hanneman in that they wail and screech all over the place which make them
sound rather chaotic/messy. To sum this up:FUCKING PREPARE FOR ANOTHER STELLAR RECORD BY NAILS

You Will Never Be One of Us is such a blistering, punch-in-the-face grind album. Nails is always on point and, while I feel this is the weakest of their albums, You Will Never Be One of Us continues that trend. I love the hardcore breakdowns and the pissed off, nearly unintelligible screams. The place I feel this album deviates from earlier Nails albums is the soloing. I don't love the death metal style solos on here. Fortunately, there are rare, and the rest of the album is pure grind.

Strangely enough the prod on this one feels far mushier and muddier than previously, but not in a way that serves the music. In fact, the first four tracks sound like a demo, not their latest LP to date. It has cool riffs here and there, but it is slower, less fun, and with the bad prod I'd never listen to this over their earlier material. Then, surprisingly, the record picks it up with more abrasive, faster paced songs that also have much more chaotic hardcore DNA into them, which of course I like. The end of 5 is stupid, but aside from that 5-9 are all jammy tracks. 8 shows the chaotic elements nicely, and 6 demonstrates that Nails can make slower tempos work. The first few minutes of the closer are cool too, but the track then goes on and on forever with cliche slow riff after cliche riff, and my rating went downhill because of that. On an album this short, having an uninteresting closer this long is a massive mistake. Still an ok 3.6

The third full length album from the sinister trio is full of energy and continue to trace a path of originality and noise. The only issue is the lack of improvement on the structure of the songs, but nothing that ruin the impact of the album.

So preposterously pummeling and heavy and pissed that it don't matter much when it begins to blur some five minutes/four tracks in -- even for a genre where that's the norm, the accelerated aural assault they administer awes and appalls every time, making good on the get-the-fuck-outta-the-room inclination their prohibitive album title+prefatory mutterings hint towards. In fact, the production is instrumentally powerful to the point where the vox seem satisfied back-sat and comparably kinda stagnant, and the tunes drift toward middle of the road after that aforementioned blur. But "they come crawling back" for the finale indeed; an 8+minute monster that sees 'em gettin' their sludge on while segueing into demon-ridden squall-pits and lasers-on-foil breakdowns.

You Will Never Be One of Us starts off with brutally violent, just-about-one-minute tracks to get your mouth watering: You Will Never Be One of Us, Friend to All and Life is a Death Sentence provide ferocious grind riffs with flawless transition making any fan of heavy music want to get up and run around like a savage. The next five tracks between Violence is Forever and Into Quietus are more hodgepodge and lack in the songwriting department leaving less of a memorable section for the listener and making less efficient use of the nuclear energy that NAILS brings to your ears. The finale is much more drawn out and revives the spirit that the record began with and is probably the best track on here; more downtempo but the songwriting and lyrics are the most powerful of the album. As a whole the production is somewhat frustrating relying on too much gain and grain to meld the elements together beyond what is needed; it comes off as jumbled. A bit less post on the vocals would go a long way. Several great moments of grind, hardcore and metal beatdown are not enough to make this great as a whole.
