Gah dayum. First time I heard White Iverson, I've been keeping a look out on new material he would release. It feels rather odd that I can't stand Future's music yet I absolutely love every second of this mixtape

after listening to tracks like white iversion, i had no interest in keep listening to this guy's music. really thought he was another one trick pony but i gotta say, this mixtape turned out to be way better than what i was expecting. he has a great ear for melodies and while the lyrics are often basic, they are fun enough to go along with these cloudy beats that really work with malone's impressive use of autotune. not without its shortcomings, but still not that bad. 3-

The long-awaited debut mixtape of overnight star Post Malone is a solid foray into what he's all about: cloudy beats, braggadocios rapping, and autotune-drenched R&B vocals. He uses the autotune as just another instrument, which is the best way to use it, and it works really well. The first three tracks on the tape are kind of lukewarm, but things get rolling with "God Damn"'s catchiness and "40 Funk", which features the best lines on the tape. Somehow he takes the chorus to Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" and gives it his own meaning. A bastardization, to be sure, but one totally endearing and not pretending to be anything else. While it is true that some of the production here sounds a bit dated, the attention is less on the production than on Post himself, which is impressive given that most of the production is pretty nice. Of course, one could make the case that he's holding something back here, which is a valid statement. I guess we'll have to see what his first album proper brings to the table.
