2.0 poor | Finn Baker | August 26th 16 | I should not have been so bored by this EP. Aphex Twin has proven in the past how spontaneous he can be while still producing amazing music. We all know how intricate his music can be, but the Cheetah EP isn't anything like that and it doesn't really have any justification for that. This sounds like it should be older than albums like I Care Because You Do. The EP itself is okay but it's massively underwhelming given what Aphex Twin has done in the past.

2.5 average | Alabaster Jones | July 31st 16 | I need not go into detail about the background of Richard James, IDM's golden child, as you know him well enough already I'm sure. Cheetah sees Aphex Twin turning in some of his most calming music in quite some time, but also some of his most inconsequential. That doesn't mean isolated spots aren't great, however, as the tandem of "CIRKLON 3" and "CIRKLON 1" is excellent, with the ethereal beatwork giving off danceability,e rhythms and an enjoyable, tranquil atmosphere. Otherwise, however, nothing truly interesting is going on, with the same effect the CIRKLON tracks achieved being tried for but falling short, whether it be the lack of enough going on or the lack of anything attention grabbing when there is. It's not his best effort by a long shot, but Cheetah does still have some moments of clarity amid the uneventful.

2.5 average | TheManMachine | October 23rd 16 | Cheetah; as in this serves mostly as a demonstrative dabbling with the seldom-seen synth of the same name, not as in this is a speedy+voracious set of tunes that are gonna hunt you down and sink their teeth in. And per ushe, the Aphexer proves himself a gracious enough guru, establishing the particular characteristics of said synth slow and safe and steady while compiling its miscellaneous morsels into 30-second asides for the sake of consummation. But unlike his similarly satiated showcasing of computer controlled acoustic instruments last year, this sound palette reads too much as routine and the bore fruit is pretty much dispensable. Shoutout to stark-n-crawling thick-ass bass thumps, though.
