80/100. An extremely impressive debut record from Atlanta rapper J.I.D. Over the 40 minute runtime, J.I.D shows off his versatility both in flows and aesthetic, melding hints of trap, melodic crooning, conscious rap, and break beats into a cohesive full-length project. Whether spitting out bangers (Never, 8701, LAUDER) or diving deep into his head (Hereditary), J.I.D demonstrates the breadth of his ability and hints at an enormous potential beneath his dark and woozy aesthetic. The Kendrick comparisons aren't extreme--- this guy is an artist to look out for.

good debut album that primarily serves as a window to show off his potential. it's flawed, especially when it comes to the lyrics and his extremely nasal delivery but he does have a nice flow, a decent singing voice and a really good ear for production. not bad at all. 3+

A bit too high pitched for me, but certainly can hear the potential in this upcoming artist. Lyrics, when they're not repetitive (ex: EdEddnEddy track), are a bit juvenile and "flairy" for my interests though... This album still deserves credit for using actual instruments into their beats (ex: Hereditary). Hope this guy's work gets better from here.
