4.0 excellent | Panzerchrist | May 14th 17 | Their most hostile release to date, fully realized by an absolutely inhospitable production job courtesy of one Kurt Ballou. Mutoid Man's greatest strength has always been their adept navigation of tempos, structures and whole genres, and 'War Moans' is no exception. From schizoid, post-hardcore attacks, to Slayer-esque war-anthems, to straight, anthemic cock rock cuts, this is just another example of one of the most talented, least-categorizable groups around doing what they do best.

4.5 superb | BRAman22 | August 1st 17 | A strange but awesome mixture of Converge-esque technicality and insanity with vocals that sound similar to many radio rock/metal bands throughout.

4.5 superb | marf1300 | January 26th 18 | Fun, catchy stoner rock influenced by a variety of metal sub-genres, but this has a enough technicality hidden underneath the accessible sheen to keep things interesting.

3.5 great | cjbizzlebizzle | August 2nd 17 | War Moans is an obvious maturation of the Mutoid Man sound but not necessarily a step forward from their previous two efforts. Still entrenched in a stoner metal/rock and hardcore base the group really favors the former here and it all becomes a much catchier, approachable experience. Compared to Bleeder, War Moans is much more melodic and quite a bit less aggressive. With that being said, this can't be taken too negatively as Brodsky has found a masterful balance of cheesy yet fantastic lyrical hooks and the band itself stays as energetic and technical as ever with things just more on the rock side rather than metal/hardcore. Another great thing about this album is the track variation. Mutoid Man excels at a wide variety of styles like the hyper, intense Micro Aggression, a pure ballad in Bandages and the super catchy rock track Kiss of Death. Check them out live whenever possible, one of the best on-stage acts around right now.

3.5 great | TheManMachine | July 15th 17 | Yours and my favorite Smash TV-referencing super-trio sensation return for a much anticipated full-length part two; one whose growth is gainly but with mixed results. Ultimately the songwriting is no doubt upped and they further cement their standing as bodacious blenders of hardcore, metal, speed, sludge, ridiculous melodic fun, complex+ferocious crush. But other than an omg-riff here or a stupidly good guitar-strangle solo there, I get more enjoyment and energy out of their debut's dirtier directness. Brodsky's clarion chirp goin' a bit over-cheesy at times. And I love a good guitar strangle, but I'd gladly swap out one of the extra axe-guests if Wolfe did more than whimper.
