1.5 very poor | PistolPete | May 18th 17 | This shit sucks. I mean the band was barely tolerable before as it was. And now they come galloping into the scene with this newer '80s beachy/funky sound like it's revolutionary and just play it into the ground for 12 songs until it's beyond overdone. And the hooks are normal indie pop hooks, nothing more nothing less.

4.0 excellent | Alabaster Jones | May 23rd 17 | It would seem that Paramore have completed their metamorphosis from a spunky alt-rock/pop-punk band to matured alt-pop hitmakers, and one can't help but feel good for them. After Laughter is a somewhat deceiving album in the sense that one can listen to it passively and get the idea that it's just a enjoyable pop album full of dumb fun, and then that same person could listen to it fully engaged and get the idea that it's actually kind of a downer and that the music and the lyrics together are nearly complete opposites in the best way possible. And it's not like this is simple 80's worship either; this is some ideas borrowed from those times and reworked and refined to match a more modern style, one which is laid on pretty strong, keeping a constant aesthetic to the album besides one hiccup in the all-acoustic "26" (still a good song, just doesn't fit in too well with the others). It's a very commendable and well-thought-out album, and one wonders where they'll go after this one.

4.0 excellent | dethjam | March 13th 18 | You really have to listen to the album a couple of times and the penny simply drops. The album is questionably their best musically and lyrically.

4.0 excellent | Lucman | January 5th 18 | Talk about a grower. Was fairly disappointed with Paramore's latest when I first heard it but it's only grown on me little by little since. At this moment, it's sitting among my favourite pop albums this half of the decade.

3.0 good | Zachery Cotto | May 13th 17 | Gotta give them props for sticking to some sort of cohesive concept on this. While it's relatively
shallow and not well excecuted in places, there are fun moments to be had here. It starts off
really good and ends horribly. After Fake Happy the songwriting starts to dip and it
just keeps going down from there.
That chanting on idle worship is some of the most annoying stuff I've heard all year.
The last two tracks are mixed horribly, drag on too long, and are barely audible.

3.4 great | Erwann S. STAFF | February 21st 23 | Paramore go new wave! Not only that, they almost wholly shed off their pop punk roots to focus on a power pop/pop rock aesthetic that suits them very well. Fortunately, and on the contrary to the preceding record, After Laughter is tite, in that the songs are coherent in and of themselves and in the "grand" scheme of the album. Nothing is truly unique, though, but hey, consistency is cool!

5.0 classic | IsildursBane44 | April 3rd 20 | The lyrics and the music combat against each other so well, and the fact that it's so blatantly addressed on tracks like fake happy and hard times makes it all the more cynical. Love it. Their best album (coming from someone who enjoys all their stuff). Shows their mature growth as a band, doing something different while still keeping their identity. Instant classic.

0.0 | h e a v e n | January 10th 18 | I just had to bump up my rating on this, I wouldn't have thought this album would get better with age, but that's exactly the case. This along with the S/T is the Paramore that I've been enjoying, I hope for more releases like this.

3.5 great | YotamTS | September 17th 17 | Such a fun album.Favorite tracks: Hard Times, Rose-Colored Boy, Pool, 26, Fake Happy, Idle Worship.Least favorite track: Forgiveness.
Bump |
3.5 great | KManoc1 | August 11th 17 | This album is good, but I wish that they hadn't abandoned their Pop Punk sound.
Bump |
3.5 great | MeetMeAtBarItalia | July 2nd 17 | A solid new wave-inspired emo-pop record with really relatable, if a little too general, lyrics. There is a lot to like instrumentally speaking, with the detailed guitars and synths and sleek production. Hayley Williams tackles anxiety and depression with a renewed maturity, even if she does not really find any closure. I do not have a ton to say, the songs are pretty immediate while still maintaining enough replay value, the whole experience is cohesive yet diverse. They may not shoot for the moon here as they did on their self-titled, but they never needed to.
Bump |
2.5 average | FlipTrackz | May 18th 17 | Can this "comeback album where we try a random 80's pop aesthetic" trend just die already?
Bump |
4.0 excellent | TatremyMusic | May 15th 17 | This album is such an excellent way for a pop punk band to progress. It is a very solid new wave attempt that still retains the classic "rocky" Paramore sound. The drum beats on this album are very distinct in sound. The guitars have a more'indie" flare, but still have a major presence in the music itself. Solid transition from self-titled to this.
Bump |
3.5 great | Jared Floryan | May 12th 17 | Following a disastrous and overlong self-titled album that had all the focus of a Chain Chomp giving Goombas swimming lessons, American pop punk-turned-pop rock uniform Paramore are back with their fifth studio record - which is certainly a pleasant surprise given how inconsistent the release's antecedent was. While hints of a new wave style were already cropping up on the last album, After Laughter stresses an even greater emphasis on that influence, and to this band's credit, they're able to pull off the shift in direction nicely. Even if the production quality could use some punch and Hayley Williams' general vocal inflection doesn't lend itself well to the subdued, 80s-esque instrumentals, Paramore's latest creation houses just enough good to outweigh the bad at the end of the day. After Laughter is hands down a far more cohesive and less desperate offering than the previous effort, and it serves as an omen of possibly better things to come in the future. On a side note, "Rose-Colored Boy" jams so hard, you got no clue.

1.5 very poor | TheSleepys | May 11th 17 | I don't like it. Its like a worse version of The Strokes album Angles
Bump |
2.5 average | runaways | May 11th 17 | I mean, I can certainly see the appeal. But this is a pop album after all and besides "Hard Times", I can't remember a single damn hook on this thing.
Bump |
4.5 superb | 3waycrash | May 11th 17 | Paramore embrace more of their pop sound this time with an 80s-tinge. It's a shift stylistically, but still wholly a Paramore album. Hayley sounds great as usual, the aforementioned 80s sound works for them, and the fake happy lyrics and sound is a big part of the tone of the album.
Bump |
3.5 great | kogli | May 9th 17 | I rated before the album came out only because somebody rated 2.0 before me and I think it's
just really unfair for an album to be given a negative rating before it's even released,
just because the band changed their genre. So that's why I tried to even the rating out a
bit. (I was the second person to rate this)
Bump |
