2.5 average | SexualManChocolate | February 4th 18 | One of the most bizarre albums I've ever heard. JT has failed to create anything truly artistic, and the intent was there. In my opinion, this album has three of the best songs Timberlake has ever composed. Midnight Summer Jam, Supplies, and Say Something are truly special, and there is even a concept for the album, but man! EVERYTHING ELSE on the album is some of the most half-assed lackluster rubbish I've heard. Timberlake's decision for ditching modern synth beats and branching out into alternative or folk was a step in the right direction, but the album in its entirety is missing the magic that was found on The 20/20 Experience. However, I am optimistic that his next album will be stronger, if not a potential classic.

2.0 poor | cjbizzlebizzle | May 10th 18 | 66 minutes of an uninspiring mix of pop, funk and country makes for one big disappointment as JT tries to convince us that he is in fact a Southern boy straight out of the backwoods because of his favorite flannel. Most of the songs are somewhat tolerable but Filthy, Supplies and Flannel are fairly awful and sound incredibly forced. Breeze Off the Pond, Midnight Summer Jam and Say Something try to bring some credibility to the project but the album is just stuffed with so much other mediocre content that you quickly forget about these tracks. The production is obviously big time but for the most part JT's singing feels washed out or even distant and lacking any passion or depth, a big miss on that end.

1.5 very poor | TheManMachine | February 28th 18 | Early teaser vids for "Suppli-i-ies" and the title track predicted this timbered Timberlake undertaking was gonna be polarizing when putting it nicely and painful if we're being forthright. Vids themselves each wretched commercial camp in their own unique way, the tunes close to that but hey I've hummed em -- which as a cram-full complete project is essentially the gist, only many ain't really hummers. I've been jivin' with JT's corn for a while now, albeit amidst the bolder+funner production of albums past. But this is so safe and stale and strained more often than not, something like fetching at times but moreso positively cringe elsewhere. So-called-Southern sounds/sendups and out of place XPeRiMeNTaL passages seemingly vacuous and phony as it gets, then comes the how-can-ya-not-laugh "Hers" interlude; which nearly confirms conceptual caricature. Most comfortable when cooing for wife-n-son, a good sign.

2.5 average | c0nf1n3d | February 16th 18 | It's no 20/20 Experience...not even close. Justin Timberlake's latest effort "Man of the Woods" is at best, 'really good', and at worst, 'really boring'. Nothing on this has the highs that 20/20 Experience had...which is such a shame because there's still a lot to like here. "Midnight Summer Jam" is funky (and also contains a brilliant callback to 20/20 Experience's "Don't Hold the Wall"), "Sauce" has a great hook, "Higher Higher" is very catchy, "Say Something" is a perfect sing-along song, "Montana" is groovy, and "Breeze off the Pond" isn't too bad either. There's not much else here though. A valiant effort from Timberlake and Pharell Williams (/Neptunes - producers of the record) to mix-in modern sounds and splashing in cameo vocals from Jessica Biel and Timberlake's kids...but it's not adding much to the record. Personal preference wise - I've neglected until now to talk about the song "Supplies"; mainly because this song might be the most frustrating song I've ever heard in my life. What starts as a synthesized beat not-uncommon in popular songs today hits a bridge that is INCREDIBLE. However, the bridge cuts off just before it can even become anything, which is unbelievably frustrating when it really did feel like it could've been the album's best track. To conclude, "Man of the Woods" isn't a fall backwards for Justin Timberlake, but it's definitely a few steps backwards. The great songs on this one will age well, the poor ones won't at all.

2.5 average | gryndstone | February 6th 18 | This god forsaken lovechild of hip-hop stylings and modern country flashes misses more than it hits, but it's hard to hate on something with JT's voice all over it.

2.0 poor | iGuter | January 3rd 18 | A big misstep from JT. An album with intentions of getting to his grassroots to be relatable, that falls flat, with some of the worst, cringy dance pop music. This is a step down from what he?s capable of.

2.0 poor | Risodo | February 2nd 18 | Tired of showing off his music skills, Justin Timberlake makes a record full of songs to be played on the radios and on open channel advertisements. Completely uninspired and with a musical recycling that defines the word "atrocity," Timberlake begins his self-deprecating trajectory. Collaborative tracks do not make sense and will never do on this genre. "Man of the Woods" is another nail in American popular music that has been suffering from highly dubious releases in recent years.
