I don't hardcore like a ThisLifeIsGenocide or a fromtheinside, but I do know my way around a number of bands. And out of all the Defeaters and Have Hearts out there, Verse's Aggression is probably my all-time favorite conglomerate of all - or at least most - things melodic hardcore from those other bands in one album. "Story of a Free Man" three-part song is one of my favorite musical moments ever, and damn if I don't like every other track as well. Enter a cliche plea for a legitimate display of passion or whatever that you read about in many hardcore sound-offs or reviews, and you've got why I consider this a classic. Those a little disappointed by 2011's Defeater should give this a spin.

This is one of the best straight up Hardcore albums I've heard in a long while. The music and vocals come together to convey exactly what the title tells you it will, "Aggression". Verse never fall into the normal over-the-top tendencies that many straight-edge bands fall into (think old Throwdown or Liferuiner) and their politics are spoken rather eloquently (as far as hardcore goes) and never seems like they are beating the lifestyle book over your head. Its really nice to hear political hardcore done right for a change. The music is powerful and energetic much like Bane and the lyrics have the same sense of urgency. Maybe I'm going a little over board on that last statement, but this really is a joy to listen to.

some of the most passionate and uplifting hardcore to ever come out probably. the three part "story of a free man" makes me cry any time i hear it. new england just had hardcore down to a science at this point

Just in case you didn't read the title of this record, this is pure baby kicking hardcore that will beat the crap out of you and take your wallet. While anger is something that is easily come by in this genre but the wishy washy anger displayed in many hardcore artists gets boring, but Verse's Agression will move you way before it ever bores you. With lines like "All of my heroes have been ruined or written out of history. I could be destined to fade away like so many before me but as long as my heart keeps beating. I still can't stop screaming." you'll see why this ridiculously urgent record is the best hardcore record of 08.

Definitely but this album! It's the best Verse record yet, and probably one of the best records that are coming out this year. It's easily up there with Songs to Scream at the Sun
