4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | April 9th 19 | Forgotten Paths is atmospheric black metal with pagan, folk and celtic elements so seamlessly integrated that, while they are obvious and up front, they feel very natural right alongside the uptempo BM riffs and rhythms. Saor use pianos, violins, woodwinds and bagpipes throughout the journey and often very Celtic sounding melodies but it never feels forced or has that mash-up effect; this alone is a triumph as so many bands manage to make these things sound goofy in the metal context. Right from the get go Forgotten Paths transports you to nature. It nails the atmosphere. The mood is often somber but there are triumphs and the album always has a sense of direction forward, another path to follow. The three long, epic tracks all feel like different journeys or adventures in the same tale. Saor go on long passages without vocals but when they do use them they are well-placed and powerful. Neige absolutely nails his shrieks on the title track. Sophie Rogers provides a great, angelic clean section on Bron. If any longer the album might start getting a bit tiring but Saor deserve full credit for just how naturally they manage to integrate folk and celtic sounds into atmospheric black metal here.

3.5 great | Doublez38 | December 16th 19 | Although Forgotten Paths is the most important song and the success of the eponymous album, the other 3 tracks also have things to say. We can still feel that he's not moving at the same speed as on his previous albums

3.9 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | November 18th 19 | True Celtic Black Metal. As epic as my kilt-protected baws being gently caressed by the Highlands' winds, as harsh as the first taste of haggis, as soft as a shortbread, as subtle as a Laphroaig.

4.0 excellent | TheManMachine | March 8th 19 | Wish it wasn't as copious on the voiceless patches, plus I do tend to get wary at the implementation of precious piano and predictable posi post-y buildups in my black metal; or most anything for that matter. But its overall mixture of ferocity+epic is difficult to deny -- lush and all-enveloping, massive and roaring, violin+flute straight outta the magic forest, acoustic mattering, windswept mountain-demon growls getting along with softies. The folksy input in particular is pretty top notch, and when this is firing on all cylinders it's truly a beautiful thing. Then for a finale it takes up near 5 out of near 39 total minutes dwelling on crashing waves and elegant bleh.

4.0 excellent | Bedex | March 1st 19 | This is a brilliant record that mixes black metal with elements of folk and out-of-the-ordinary instruments like violin or flute. The songs are very dynamic and there aren't five minutes in the album that are the same This will require multiple listens to definitely make my mind on it, but it is definitely a cool ride. 4.1

4.5 superb | Reviewc0re | February 7th 19 | The shorter length really lets this album hit home where it needs to, plus the production really is superb.

4.5 superb | Panzerchrist | February 6th 19 | It does nothing different at all from the three albums past. The production is marginally better.
