after second listen I'm preemptively giving this a 5 because instrumentally, structurally and
mood-wise this is their best album yet and I can probably tick the box on the lyrics being as
dense and poetic as ever, only problem I have with this thing is the vocals being mixed really low
but after a couple readings of the lyrics it will come to me by heart anyway. I'm completely in
awe of how they've reinvented themselves again and created another fucking masterpiece after
Wildlife which may actually be as good as that record is, maybe even better. Also this album also
has little to no duds, like Wildlife had, and the tracks here are a lot more expansive, moody and
progressive, basically a bunch of Last Lost Continents but with the added nuance of everything
they've dabbled in ever since. Holy shit.

Panorama is a very interesting album, well written and musically striking, however there are some flaws or things that bother me and that are not negligible, with too much weight for it to be an excellent album. At the same time I love the writing, the imagination and even the tortured spirit that Jordan Dreyer can have, however often his voice or his screams at the effect of a painful cotton swab.

If this album were the first I'd listened to by the band, I would say it was good. But the fact that the band is still doing this is honestly embarrassing. rIts a disrespect to Somewhere at the bottom... you would've thought the people who wrote that album would have progressed further by this point. Instead, it feels like they're doing themselves lukewarm. If I was a woman, I would have left this man. Like, can you become a man, and stfu and actually do something about life instead of continuing to perform in an edgy soap opera? rthis is another band that sputnik seems to be sucking on due to past prestige when the reality is they were good before, not now. rThey need to move on. And ppl sucking on them is part of why they're probably not. Cause all the infatuated emo-artsy kids and holding them exactly where they idolize them. it annoys me. the spotlight ruins the artist 90% of the time.

Smashing, but my love of crescendocore made me want a huge climax at the end of Your Ascendant. After further listening, it sure is impressive and more captivating than Rooms of the House, but I feel it does not succeed as well as their first two albums. Dreyer sounds more tired, and while the lyrics are poignant as always, they do feel worn out after all these years. Musically, this is classic La Dispute, but having listened to this band for 10 years makes this stand out less in their discog.
