A surprisingly good release by Fall Out Boy. It show energy, it shows flare, it show the listener a good time. Adventurous, vibrant and, damn catchy it has everything it needs to keep their fanbase beyond happy and to show the rest of us that they really do have the talent to make good music.

This album is one of those cases of "ahead of its time." Fans wanted Infinity II, but FOB made what they wanted to make, which made fans, including myself, furious. This is, however, some of the most solid material FOB has ever released.

For a while I wasn't a fan of this album; I remember being greatly disappointed when it was first released. Even after repeated listens it never really captured my attention, and I forgot about it for a long while. After much time and returning to listening to the album it has grown on me. I still don't love this album, but I appreciate it a lot more. While I feel the songs for the most part aren't the most notable in Fall Out Boy's career, they are well-crated and it's consistently catchy and strong throughout its runtime. FOB tried out something different at the time with the clear difference in musical influences, but the album still had the same hooks and large choruses the band was known for. Folie a Deux was the last proper album they released as a band (let's forget their "return") and it even has a sense of closure and finality. This was Fall Out Boy at the height of their creativity, and it would have been a great final album to have capped off their career with.

Listening to this album only to later experience Fall Out Boy's next two records does make a few people (myself included, believe it or not) wonder as to what the hell happened to the quality of this quartet's music. The emo-pop outfit's fourth official release is like a spiritual predecessor to Save Rock and Roll, in the sense that FOB wanted to appeal to an even broader crowd than they already have; but while the boys' comeback album alongside American Beauty/American Psycho were half-hearted and showed how they were trying too damn hard to stay relevant, Folie a Deux has flair and activity to it. Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, and the other two overshadowed men held onto the fun factor left over from previous recordings whilst throwing in a lot of ambition. Noticeably inconsistent and instrumentally weak it might be, though boring the offering isn't for the most part.

I'd give this a 3.25 if I could. 3.5 seems a little high, but 3 seems to low. Either way, this was a big step down for FOB. "What a Catch, Donnie" is the only track that really stands out here. There are some other good ones like "Americas Suitehearts" and "I Don't Care", but they get old after a while.

A very ambitious album by Fall Out Boy, perhaps this is why it proved to be so unpopular and ralienated so many of their fans. This album has a huge production and sounds like it rwould be more at home in a stadium than playing on my headphones. It's kind of refreshing rto hear such boldly anthemic, arena-rock with such sardonic lyrics and a strong dose of rangst. It experiments with lush layers of instrumentation but always remains catchy and rdoesn't lose it's rock backbone in the rich production. The best track is probably r"Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet", a dark, theatrical piece that balances both rbig orchestral sounds and synth stabs and shifts suddenly from evil swaggering basslines to rsensitive piano sections. I like how the album tries for a more classic rock influenced rsound, however, I do find that some of the songs are a bit derivative. At least what they do rsteal they repurpose in such a way that it still makes for a reasonably original song.

So comfortable with this at a 4.5. You can tell how much effort was put into making this a big album. I think what makes this such an enjoyable experience for me is the high creativity level.

Delightfully poppy yet brilliantly written. Definitely a fun listen for me. It has its rough patches (w.a.m.s. in particular), but overall it maintains a light poppy atmosphere with Fall Out Boy's most ambitious work yet. Tied with Take This To Your Grave as my favorite.

It has the energy and catchiness you would expect from an FOB record, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they've cut out a lot of the crap that plagued Infinity on High. While they will probably never put out another Take This to Your Grave, this is a surprisingly good release from a band that i used to love and now quite hate.

Nobody expected this.
Fall Out Boy abandon the gritty side of their sound almost entirely, but what remains is an incredibly catchy, hook-laden and exciting continuation of their previous work. The RnB influence so dominant at parts on Infinity on High rubs shoulders with a million other sources of inspiration and forges one of the best pop albums this year. If the record didn't lose momentum after track 9, this would be a 4.5 or more.
