Ages awful. Sounds redundant. A not bad Song, the eponymous title track, basically doesn't exist. You're not "all good already"; you are the girl from "break my heart". You "uhh like were gonna not go near this dude who makes you become a terrible person" and then "uhh went anyways and everything sucks if it's anything near your disgusting existence". Worst new music. This fad's over.

FUTURE NOSTALGIA's last two songs are wretched in comparison to every other groove inducing, poppy, catchy, feel-good track preceding them. There's not a single dud in the album's progression until those last two songs ("Good in Bed" and "Boys Will be Boys"). Notable tracks include: probably everything you've heard one way or another. Preference wise: "Physical", "Levitating", "Cool".

Many here (and not only here) compare this album to Emotion and other Carly Rae Jepsen work. And many rightfully call that comparison unjust. I think so too, but probably for a different reason. Where Jepsen's work has not the slightest appeal to me, Dua Lipa succeeds. Even if this can be derivative in many respects, the sheer song-writing factor carries this album forward. A few median duds, but for the vastly most part, this is full of the most likeable character-rich pop this year can offer.

This record to me is kind of like the sonic equivalent to being at a party that sort of has a nice atmosphere and some enjoyable music here and there, but still feeling kinda alienated and socially drained to the point of almost wanting to return home like an hour later. Aesthetically Future Nostalgia tippytoes constantly between sleak, catchy and funky disco-infused dance pop that reminds me a bit of some of the stuff that was on the radio in the 2000's (stuff like Kylie Minogue, Sophie-Ellis Bextor or some of Jamiroquai's poppier cuts) but modernized a little for the 2020 landscape, and very contemporary club-friendly pop music that you can catch pretty much anywhere today. I can see the appeal but personally those moments don't really speak to me and actually kind of disconnect me from really being able to get into some of the genuinely good stuff this record so obviously has to offer, because they make some of these songs sound spotty and bland at times instead of solid from front to back. The track Boys Will Be Boys is also kind of a weird baroque-pop-ish detour that lyrically comes off as a bit of a basic feminist anthem that really lacks nuance and rather just opts for the big buzzwords instead. I can totally get behind the concept of the song, but the track really is the hardest to stomach for me sonically, especially because instrumentally it doesn't fit the record with its plucked strings and dramatic, building instrumentation, even as a closer. Still, I think it's a decent pop record and I can totally get why people might be more into it then I am.

A great record that is so close to being in the upper echelons of recent pop but it falls short for a few reasons. Let's start out with the good. 'Don't Start Now', 'Physical' and 'Break My Heart' are phenomenal tracks. Immaculate production, groovy energetic bass, addicting hooks and very much bring intense, danceable energy. These are pop tracks you could listen to endlessly and they always make you want to get up and move around. That being said this album rides the fine line between a modern classic and something a few things here and there bring down from that tier. The lyrical content gets tiring. Not because of the sexual aspects or the feminist themes at times but because of stuff like 'Good in Bed' and pretty much the four tracks surrounding it having the exact same theme. 'Boys Will Be Boys' delivers a fine enough overall idea but just feels like it has no place on the record. 'Good in Bed' is just confusing, if anything... foot notes = "we have a toxic relationship, oh you touched me... let's have sex"... sounds healthy? In many cases Lipa's in your face attitude is great but it also leads to a few missteps at the end of the record. A few true SOTY candidates but it loses its magic after many listens as a whole album.

So, for everyone who is mad that people are comparing this to Emotion needs to keep their mouth shut. This modern pop 80s-esque composition is very much indeed a worthy rival to the beloved classic Emotion.

Funny people ask me why I don't like pop music. I feel like this is a terrible question because in many respects they mean popular music and not the genre pop. In a quick and dirty way, I do like popular music and this is another example of popular pop music being executed almost perfectly. From the writing to the production, to the singing, this album shows that there is greatness out there. My only flaw is that the second to last track doesn't fit with the album really, but it's still really good. Also, the closer is a fairly weak closer that doesn't sound all that interesting for such a great message.

Not quite sure if I understand the hype behind this one. This ranges from retro-sounding dance pop to your typical modern pop fare. Some tracks are great, but others are simply bland and forgettable. Unfortunately the weak ending doesn't help either.
