Tillian is uncharacteristically blah as fuck on this one, not one hook on here that even touches something like Suspended In This Disaster or Man of the Year or Deception etc. Not enough Jon Mess and when Tillian takes the reins here it just makes me miss Mess. Download Secret Band LP2 instead.

Decent for Tilian era Gavin but not as good as Acceptance Speech 2.0 or Mothership. They fixed a lot of stuff from Artificial Selection but came out with newer shortcomings this time... Average to good for me... Sadly I'm getting some DGD fatigue, they haven't done anything good to amazing since Mothership...

Wooooo dgd are back with another bash of an album. Let's see we got a song where Tilian speaks in Spanish. Muy Caliente! They have a few guest spots where some dude sings for a bit but it's w/e. Mess is blessed as always. So yeah. Fun record. Some might say not 5 worthy but it doesn't matter. Dgd can make songs until the heat death of our sun and I'd still boogy to it baby.

I never was a huge fan of the band although I seem to dig them enough to have listened to all their records. This one, like the last two, didn't displease me, but I can't say I really enjoyed the ride. It's DGD, so I like the jazzy and mathy post-hxc stuff but I never really enjoyed the clean vocals direction they pursue. + wtf Spanish + wtf the feat with Bilmuri?

Promo copy here btw. It's a great record, continuing the "formula" that DGD have been falling
into with ArSe and such. Super catchy (Tilian flexes hard) but it does get pretty samey quite
fast for me. DGD are the August Burns Red of post-hardcore, by essentially releasing "the same
album" over and over again, not really doing anything necessarily new on this record (asides from
the song where Tilian sings in spanish). Their records are just consistently great and they're
getting quite stagnant in the variety of song structure. That isn't a shot at DGD, they've
crafted their sound to be where they are now, it works and it's successful. But after several
really similar albums (not including Mothership because that went "harder" than they usually do
I'd say), their music is slowly losing that genuine and fresh touch, musically. But they're the
PHC kings so they can do as they please, their hard work earns it.

The ninth album from the five-piece Sacramento post-hardcore legends continues to dive deeper into their unique brand of hardcore music that has taken the 2010?s by storm. Without this band, I honestly would have never fallen in love with heavier music all way back in middle school. Now is this as good as their original material?it?s always hard to say because this band has gone through so many lineup changes, but at this point, it's their fifth album with the same five members and I have to say this band is losing steam. I give Will and Tilian huge props for being able to pump out album after album every two years since 2005, however, I noticed on the last album and definitely on this record that the band is losing steam. Jon?s screams seem so forced at this point and his lyrics are becoming so cringy that even a hot topic kid from 2008 would feel the same way. There are still some really great songs on here, especially the last 4 or 5. The closure is a great new direction and sound I would love to hear them go down. However, most of this seems so drab and unemotional that I honestly wish the band would break up?which I don?t want them to do because I love DGD.

I'm not sure what I expected from this, but I am happy with the end result. It's everything I want
from the band, with a few sonic twists and turns thrown in. I'm only on my 3rd listen, so it's
still all sinking in, but I'm enjoying this more immediately than I did ArSe, which took a bit
more time for me to really appreciate. I do think the next album will need to step out of the box
a bit more, but I'm fine with the half step forward here.

Not a very good DGD album, but still at least average. Nothing Shameful is the biggest banger here, with Calentamiento Global and One In A Million being two of the worst tracks in DGD's vast discography. Prisoner is probably their most bland single to date. Skip this one, listen to ANY of their other albums.

Solid record. I feel like it could have used a bit more Jon Mess on this one than what DGD gave us. It was a huge dose of Tillian. Overall a solid record nevertheless. I put it in the middle (or just slightly below) of the pack of DGD catalog. rMy favorite tracks from the album (in no order): Lyrics Lie, One In A Million, Parody Catharsis, Strawberry's Wake and Night Sway.

Sadly, I, like some others, find my opinion of this album declining with repeated listens. Aside from a few nuggets ("Prisoner" and "Say Hi" jump most readily to mind), Afterburner is entirely forgettable for me. Tilian overindulges way too much, crowding Jon out and oftentimes disintegrating what remains of DGD's old post-hardcore energy. This record is mostly phoning in - see Swan's stereotypical noodling filling the background of every track - and there's nothing fresh.

This album is a paradox. The Tillian era formula is very obvious (for better and for worse), yet
the album also shows some nice experimentation (i.e Into the Sunset's trap influences and
Calentamiento Global's Spanish love letter) along with some hints of Johnny and Kurt era styled
songs (Nothing Shameful and One in a Million).
Some songs sound so safe it hurts (Born to Fail and Three Wishes), Night Sway sounds like Secret
Band featuring Tillian and I love it. Overall quite ran enjoyable experience but it's their
weakest effort since Instant Gratification.
Honestly I felt there was a missed opportunity for some powerful choruses on this album but at
least we got Prisoner and Lyrics Lie. Perhaps leaving Born to Fail on the cutting room floor in
favour for Head Hunter may have helped a bit? I'd give it a 3.7 if possible.

Edit 2: (No hate by this but) for someone who clearly dislikes Dance Gavin Dance “stans” (presumably for them
typically being quite excessive about DGD) veninblazer has ironically seemingly done nothing but think and talk
about this band since this album came out last week

ideas to the table. Your opinion on DGD will not change with this album, but it is defo better than Artificial
