4.5 superb | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | June 7th 20 | Run the Jewels have come a long way from their in-your-face show-off style beginnings. Their lyrics have become more topical and sharp, El-P's production at its cleanest and simultaneously harshest ever, the urgency and frustration in delivery the most savage, and their songwriting most on point.

4.5 superb | ajcollins15 | June 10th 20 | What is there to say that hasn?t already been said about RTJ. They are one of the best duos in the rap game right now, and maybe one of the greatest rap groups to exist today. They also have one of the most consistent record outputs that is around today (other than Kendrick and Denzel). On RTJ4 they continue the heavy wordplay, political banter, reflection, and flaunting. However, what they create on their new record is above what they have ever done before. There is honestly no dull moment on here and you could go through the lyrics for hours and pick out unlimited amounts of satire, wordplay, and introspective. However, what makes this so powerful is because of everything happening in the world right now. In your backyard, human beings are fighting for their rights. RTJ4 is the anthem to protest and injustice towards black individuals and RTJ are the leaders of that protest and fighters to the injustice. My only negative is that the very last track goes on for longer than it should be. It could have ended after five minutes but it has a rather weird closer.

5.0 classic | xfearbefore | June 7th 20 | Killer Mike is quickly solidifying his legendary resume to lay claim as one of the greatest emcees to ever pick up a microphone. His artistry is essential in these times, it is the message and music of the people by the people for the people man. They've done it again, those motherfuckers. They are pushing the boundaries of hip hop production and forging a fiercely political legacy that will stand the test of time in history.

5.0 classic | XSebbyMcMuffinX | January 26th 21 | I've never heard any album do exactly what this album did. This took repeated listens to familiarize with the true quality of, but what other album filled with bangers is meant to approach your soul for a real talk about how our collective accountability equates to the potentiality for personal satisfaction? And there's so much more. This is layered. This is coded. This is like the homeless guy from "How Much a Dollar Cost" by Kendrick Lamar. Killer Mike and El-P both stepped their game up here. El-P's dropping one-liners that have up to four meanings, Killer Mike's energy is as infectious and relatable as ever (yet more driven), and they're knitting their verses together to balance off of each others meanings to reflect all sorts of perspectives through specific phrasing. This is an essential entry into the hip-hop canon, alongside any classic, and, to me, a picture perfect representation of a common man who interacts with his surroundings and just wants to invest in what really matters, despite imposing forces. Favorite rhetorical device: The loop from the outro to the intro. Also... "Never Look Back" is incredible when it sinks in, comparing the meaning to "Thursday In The Danger Room" from RTJ3. We live our love.

4.0 excellent | Introu1 | August 26th 21 | Amazing sampling and the flow of the rhymes are insane, i didn't you if you should had started with this album for discovering Run The Jewel, but i want too listen too more now. I feel i have too much 4/5 rn, but what can i do its good but not a masterpiece without any default 4,2/5
Bump |
1.5 very poor | evanjdaly | June 18th 21 | The flows are just bad and the production is hackneyed. From their first album, RTJ's main appeal for me was unique production and an incredible dual flow that went from one member to the next seamlessly despite such different styles. This album totally abandons dual flows in favor of biting styles of big selling artists with production that feels like something I've heard on dozens of other projects.
Bump |
4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | November 24th 20 | RTJ returns after 3.5 years with renewed energy and some of their most personal, political and focused tracks yet. RTJ3 came in 2016 and it is very obvious from the lyrics and mood of this record that the events of the last few years (and even just early 2020) shaped the direction RTJ4 would follow. Some time off has seemingly been a great thing for RTJ as they come back feeling as fresh as ever with huge beats, some nice instrumentation, timely lyrics and songs that feel at times angrier than ever and extremely relevant to today's political climate. It also feels like Mike and El-P just poured their feelings and souls into each and every track, especially the ender. 'Walking in the Snow' contends for their best song ever but the opener, ender, JU$T and Out of Sight also show that RTJ still has plenty in the take and maybe more staggered releases is the correct path forward as this album is up there with any modern hip hop release.
Bump |
4.0 excellent | MisterDoe | October 10th 20 | Although not as fresh and exciting as RTJ2, it's still a solid, aggressive, and sadly topical look at the state of things right now. But, it has its own fun moments and it only proves that they're one of the most exciting things that hip-hop has to offer today.
Bump |
4.0 excellent | charlopiano | October 5th 20 | I don't know if RTJ4 is the best place to start, but this was a damn fine record. Stellar rapping and rhymes all over the place, the production is minimalistic, but still hits you in the good way.
Bump |
3.0 good | davezillaMP3 | July 21st 20 | It is fine, i do like some of the beats here, but as a whole i just felt this project was...for a better word lacking. But overall their was nothing here that was outright terrible, and i did like it.
Bump |
0.0 | Jeffery J. Bigglestein | June 25th 20 | RTJ returns to form after whiffing slightly on RTJ 3 but it's the same old same old to be honest. If I wanted to listen to a less interesting RTJ2 I'd listen to RTJ1. See my review for more.
