This to me is just one of "Those" indie bands. There are thousands of "indie" bands out there and the vast majority of them are great, but it seems impossible for me to fully appreciate them unless I forcibly make the conscious effort to. Not a bad album and better than YFH in my opinion, but it just feel that even if I bought this I would forget about it every time I looked away from it for more than 30 minutes............3.7/5

An extremely disappointing album. After hearing them take chances and make great music on Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and A Ghost Is Born, I wasn't expecting something like the subdued Sky Blue Sky when jazz guitarist Nels Cline joined the band, but it was still enjoyable. But this album is just plain boring. The songs aren't bad, but there's no feeling of experimentation or trying something new like the other albums, with the exception of Bull Black Nova. A very "safe" album from the last band I'd expect to make one. I streamed it from their site when they put it up prior to release, and found no reason to buy it. It still gets a 3 though, because it is still well-written and performed and Bull Black Nova is a very good song.

This is my first Wilco album and after seeing all the great reviews, I'm honestly a bit disappointed. I've had this CD on repeat in my car for several days and to me there are only several standout tracks, especially "One Wing." The rest often feels a bit bland and like the band was just going through the motions. There are fun moments and a couple great songs but this album probably does not deserve all the high praise it's getting. It's solid, but nothing special.

Many tags have been applied to this Wilco band, the most frequent being that they are a watered down American version of Radiohead and that they're no more than a lousy group of dad-rockers. Flippancy aside, Wilco (The Album)'s opening track Wilco (The Song) has Tweedy announcing: "Wilco will love you, baby." It's not narcissism, it's honesty. Here's the definitive Wilco, compacted into forty-two minutes of fun music - - not life changing, mind you, just fun. "Bull Black Nova" is the strangest thing the band's ever done: a paranoid, bloody, schizophrenic tale of murder a la The Velvet Underground. It's frightening when a guy accused of dad-rockin'-it-out moans, "There's blood in the sink" as convincingly as Tweedy does here...in fact, ALL of his vocals on the album are a great improvement over both Sky Blue Sky and A Ghost is Born. All in all, there's not much to hate here. The only major pitfall is that the first half is so much better than the second half, which is unfortunate; Wilco could have had another masterpiece on their hands. So relax and enjoy this great record. Besides, Wilco loves you.
