4.5 superb | newsteamchannel4 | April 4th 21 | Late classic, I suppose. Really tender and reflective with an almost stream-of-consciousness approach. Do not expect anything like Creator Has a Master Plan, the Pharoah heard here is effortlessly reserved, only contributing his velvet brass when the phrase demands it. This is a true, seamless listen as well. Let it run and you?ll find yourself on Movement 6 when you?re asssuming three. Sam Shepard clearly is a more than a prodigy or apprentice on this album, as well; though he may be the mentee, his contributions and compositional grace make this a soon to be 5 for me.

4.5 superb | ajcollins15 | April 1st 21 | Jazz is not a new music idea, on the contrary, it is one of America's oldest and richest musical genres in existence. Pharoah Sanders is a legendary 81-year-old saxophonist who was a part of the John Coltrane group in the mid-1960s. So, he is most known for blowing the roof of any album with his avant-garde jazz explosiveness. However, on the newest album, he brings in a fairly new underground electronic producer Floating Points who has made big waves in the progressive electronic and IDM streams. Two great minds come together to create a hell of a classical jazz crossover album. On first listen it is fairly repetitive, however, as each track comes and goes you?ll see how phenomenal of a saxophone player Pharoah. So much grace and nuance are thrown into this album that it doesn?t even seem real. Although the group is not re-inventing the wheel of jazz, they are producing a legendary crossover that any fan of music needs to listen to.

4.5 superb | ZIG | January 7th 22 | In a single, continuous composition, this record is a journey painted by Sam Shepherd, who transcends through Pharoah Sanders' saxophone. The central theme, whose notes are played in unison by synthesizer, piano and harpsichord, is repeated throughout the piece from beginning to end, incorporating some variations over time. Shortly thereafter, Sanders' tenor saxophone fills the screen with atmospheric passages that heighten the dream effect. The string arrangements, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra by the hand of conductor Sally Herbert, appear in this instrumental canvas between Shepherd and Sanders as a backdrop, but without ever falling into the ignoble.rPromises is a masterpiece that unites two musicians from different generations. With classical, jazz and electronic nuances, the album is essentially ambient, with abstract and minimalist qualities. Nothing is randomly created like an improvisation done over the knee, the saxophone functioning as a brush that perfectly paints the artist's vision. An authentic celebration of the juxtaposition of sound and silence with a sophisticated musicality that transcends every listening.

4.5 superb | CanadianSpud | March 27th 21 | Not sure if it hits 5 just yet, need a few relistens first but it's easily the best album of 2021 so far. Who knew a fusion of classical and jazz composed like an Ambient album would turn out to be a potential masterpiece!

4.5 superb | Gene Gol CONTRIBUTOR | May 7th 21 | Can't say this is a predominantly jazz album, even though its leanings towards the genre are very strong. This is mostly a (new age-ish) neo-classical minimalist effort that exceeds any proper concrete boundaries and drives like a monster truck ahead into the stratosphere of beauty.

4.0 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | April 9th 21 | Lovely and pleasant, the association between electronic, jazz, and classical works extremely well - my man Pharoah still delivering the goods at 81 years old. Legend. The way he plays the sax testifies of passing time: it's deeply humble, acting as a support line rather than stealing the spotlight. The only problem I see here is that the main motif played throughout the whole record doesn't get much development - but it's a delicious motif, beautifully complemented by strings, and its repetition doesn't hinder the whole experience.
