2009 was a fantastic year for pop music; whether it be this, Animal Collective, Mew, or fun., there were just a lot of happy, endearing albums. Florence and the Machine's Lungs is not only one of the more intriguing and immediately absorbing of these, but it's also the debut album of the year. Vocally similar to Natasha Khan, but completely different conceptually. The highlights are all such strong points that this album at times feels deserving of a 5. Dog Days Are Over, Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up), Between Two Lungs, Blinding, and Cosmic Love are all contenders for best pop songs of the year.
