Sludgy, Proggy, intense and one hell of a ride. I'm not surprised that Olivia Rodrigo is becoming more popular; her discography is too damn awesome to not be recognized.

There is something so universally inherently relatable about teenage angst and puppy love relationships. While there is pretending its a perfectly written record, the simplicity of it all strikes a right chord. And I will never get enough of Olivia's angsty line delivery on opener "brutal" and "good 4 u"

the avril lavigne/hayley williams of our generation and i'm sure if this wasn't written fresh after a breakup she would be a little more sassy and energetic (like on good 4 u) and turn up the guitars more. though even without that i love this

what she doesn't [yet] have in lyricism, she makes up for in voice. seriously, her actual delivery is so compelling that -- if i look past some of the clumsier lyrics ("i hope you're happy, but don't be happier"?!?!") -- this is a banger. BANGER. she's clearly going places, but hasn't arrived yet
strongly believe that she needs to tap into the energy she found on good 4 u + brutal + deja vu, which stand tall above the rest of the record imo

The album to piss off everyone imaginable that god forbid isn?t a sad teenager?this review goes out to all those adult white males out there in the music community who see this as ?lyrically obnoxious? or ?annoying?. I might not love this album because I for one don?t fit the demographic and instrumentally it just sounds like a copy-paste of Lorde and Lana Del Rey. However, I have to give her credit for actually making the 2020 version of ?Riot!? by Paramore, and honestly probably 10 years from now if she keeps this up it will be that record for the current generation of teenagers.

Really cool album, that gets repetitive lyrically. No doubt that she will grow in her lyricism over time, though, especially when she isn't heartbroken. Can't expect much else out of a 17 year old girl, lol. Driver's License, however is one of the best songs of the year absolutely.

When she's not trying to sound like Phoebe Bridgers - ie when she lets power pop dominate her songs -, it's pretty cool. "Brutal" and "Good 4 U" are brash power pop anthems reinstating bold guitar in pop music - thank you Olivia! The bedroom pop tunes clearly are the most milquetoast tracks here, with the exception of "driver's license", Rodrigo's best vocal performance on the record. The teen lyrics are, well, teen lyrics, hence nothing to write home about if you're not 17. In the end, Sour truly is a great record, fusing Taytay's songwriting, Lorde's vocal harmonies, and late 90s-early 00s boldiness (Alanis Morrissette, Avril Lavigne). Just gotta get rid of the faux-bedroom pop aesthetic and we might get the next big pop album. Edit: eh the best songs are really nice.

I really liked the singles so I was fairly excited for the album, turns out it's good, but a little all over the place. Lyrically it's a mess, constantly going from remorseful, to angry, to jealous, to sad, back and forth, and the last track is a complete shift from the rest of the tracklist. Other than that, she's a great vocalist, backed up with surprisingly subtle production (compared to the singles), she's maybe still a little immature as a lyricist, but she's fine. She's really good at writing bridges and choruses, so I'm excited to see what she does in the future.
