Second half is absolutely spectacular, would've preferred a full album of that.
Edit: Yeah the first half grew on me too, just not crazy about the first couple tracks.
This thing is amazing if you give it more than 2 seconds of your attention and time

While the sophisti-pop instrumentals are absolute beauty, damn this voice do be grating. Second half picks it up - maybe because she sings less lel. Edit: her voice's in fact pretty rad.

This is sonically engaging, but most of the music just doesn't envelope me. Like... there really isn't any one particular quality I see as done exceedingly well. It's just a solid record, and probably amazing to a certain niche of people. Vocals grew on me a little, but I really couldn't help but think "wow, Fantano really knows people will eat up his opinion. Is he low-key trolling with this 10?" Ultimately, "sonically engaging" and "sounds like Disney" are the strongest qualities here...

Hate to say it but Fantano is on the money here. This is a wonderfully produced pop album with
excellent lyrics and songwriting, and a bonafide song of the year contender in Boys At School. I
hear some Kate Bush and Mike Patton influences which are never
a bad thing. Probably the best album of the year.

Yes, the vocals didn't work for me at first, but I learned to love the record anyway. This album is a masterpiece. The bass backdrop on "Sweet Talk", the string cadenza at the end of "Emperor with an Egg", the psychedelic poetry of "Magic Act" are just 3 of the reasons I fell in love with this record. Do yourself a favor and listen to this with the lyrics open, if you haven't already.

Convinced me onto its side a few songs in. I would understand that fantano 10 if it didnt have those two first songs that just GRATED against my ears. Could not get the vocals. But shes just trying to pick up what Kate bush dropped off imo, and one of these days it MIGHT just work

Kate Bush re-born with wonderful synthesizers and a stellar progression from song to song throughout the album. The album gives you a feeling like your floating, a feeling that many artists today fail to hit.

For some certainly difficult to stomach vocals turned out a grand delight for me. If you manage to get over her voice, you will be treated to beautifully arranged, sophisticated fairy-tale the scope of which deserves a much brighter and more striking cover art.

I didn't find this all that special on first listen, but it's since gotten better with every listen for me - already bumped from a 3.5 to a 4, I could see this maybe going higher in time. There are some really great moments across this album.
