A thoroughly savage and visceral follow up to 2018's "Errorzone", but while a sizable step up in terms of aggression, suffers from a lack of ambition and a stripping back of the strong songwriting talent that made the previous record stand out from other bands in the beatdown / nu-metalcore scene. A devastating addition to the bands discography in its own right, just one that may have come at too high a cost for some.

This World features some of the Vein.fm's most inventive compositions yet, but portions of the album are a bit muddy in their production. Nevertheless, songs like "The Killing Womb," "Magazine Beach," and "Inside Design" are perfectly terrifying. It doesn't quite top Errorzone or the EPs for me, but it certainly doesn't qualify as a miss.

While a good record in it's own right, This World is Going to Ruin You ultimately
suffers from a lack of progression in sound, and a lack of ambition. In fact, this record
seems stripped back compared to 2018's Errorzone. Still good, just not as
good as Errorzone.

Vein?s debut album in 2018, ?Errorzone? was one of the nastiest metalcore albums I had ever really heard at that point, and I have been listening to metalcore since the start of high school. Now on their third album, they don?t back down the brutality of the album, but they also increase the experimentation with some wanky little mathcore glitches and alternative metal vocals. Although I find the end of the album to leave me scratching my head why they choose a 7-minute alternative metal closer, otherwise this is a great listen and I am really loving the classic metalcore and mathcore resurgence we are seeing as of late.

Aight modern core with alt metal linings that unfortunately suffers the comparison with the band's previous effort, Errorzone: the production was better, the songs' melodies shined more too, and there are simply more "aight" tracks here - the more aggressive approach surely had an impact on this. Still cool, and there tunes here that blend core and 90s alt metal very nicely - "Magazine Beach" is straight-up Deftones goes core.

Vein is definitely following Slipknot's progression in sound, their second album is less fun and a lot darker than their first. It's less cohesive than the first and the production is not complimentary to the faster songs. The songwriting is great though and the new additions to their sound are welcome. Best tracks for me are Killing Womb, Inside Design, and Funeral Sound.

Vein.FM sure did go experimental on this one. I'm not going to diss on Errorvone, but This World Is Going To Ruin You had more variation to their tracks, keeping the album slightly more interesting. Lyrics are a bit of a step down, but its aggressive mathcore slash nu-metal influence is what we really come for.
