ok, so i was singing a tune off of this album today at work, and one of my female co-workers was like, "hey, those are some pretty unique lyrics. what are they from?" i told her and she was like "do you have any samples i can listen to?" i said yes, took out my ipod, and put it in her snatch. highly recommended.

I find myself listening to this album with my head pressed up between the speakers, lost in its magnificent sonic world. You try to comprehend it, or you try to just figure it out, but that doesn't fucking MATTER. This is music to LIVE IN, to FEEL with your heart, with your soul, in your bones, inside and out, everywhere, all around your body. It is pretty much the most intensely human record I've ever heard, and that's where I'm left, with my head between the speakers. Crying, laughing, swept away by something beautiful and stunning and haunting and moving and pretty fucking amazing.

I don't give out 5s lightly, but while I can't call this a perfect album, I can't think of a single thing I'd change about it. The yawning spaces in the middle don't drag for me; they push the album's mystique up and leave it in a unique place. I love the way it's all jagged edges and seemingly half-finished tunes after those first three fully formed songs, and the production continues to amaze.

To a certain degree, I understand. The lyrical themes, the comforting and warm mixing, the ambitious instrumentation, etc. But I can't help but be lost in all of these bells and whistles, leaving me dry and disappointed by the end of the album. I get the appeal, but the emotional impact of The Glow Pt. 2 is almost null.

one of the greatest eccentric noisy indie folk albums of all time, on par with anything
Neutral Milk Hotel has done, which is funny considering Phil literally transforms into
Jeff Mangum during the "my blooooooooooooooood flows harshly" passage, the resemblance is
uncanny. I'm still only merely getting to know it, but I'm pretty sure this is one of the
greatest musical projects I've ever heard.

Rarely do you find an album worthy of being a landmark in its genre so defined by its own imperfections than The Glow, Pt. 2. The singing is off-key, a good chunk of the guitar and drum playing seems to be off-time, and the relationship between most of the songs here is defined by a bass note that repeats itself ad infinitum at the end of the record. And there's really no other way it all could've panned out. It's one of the most intimately human albums ever recorded, the only issue with it being that it's a bit frontlogged. It's hard to live up to that opening trio, but most of the following material comes close. It's an album that says that while escaping society by enjoying nature in solitude for a time, even that does not come without its hardships. You're going to be at the mercy of the elements, you'll probably scrape yourself up, and being alone with your own thoughts may not be all it's cracked up to be. It's a special record, one that remains a cornerstone of lo-fi indie even today.

Difficult at first, but the most accessible and arguably the best of the Microphones. I say this for new listeners weary of taking the plunge. But if you give it time, you'll find this, and many other albums of Elverum's, to be absolutely brilliant. Easily one of my favorite records of all time.

Phil Elverum captures many different themes on this album. Many people have their own meanings for each song. I take this song as a story. Elverum has said that the first track, "I Want Wind to Blow," is about how his life was too "boring" and he wanted more to happen. I take this album as a story of a man spiraling down into a depression, and eventually killing himself, on the second-to-last track,"Samurai Sword." When Elverum talks about the polar bear in the song, he talks about the character, with lyrics such as,"You aim to drag me back down underground to gorge," and " But I'm plummeting through branches towards you now." Phil Elverum even says he's "Feeling still" in the song. "My Warm Blood" is the character's last moments, saying his last words, and recalling all what happened in his life. This album, although very depressing, is incredibly good, and in fact my favorite album, and I would recommend it to anyone.

i know a lot of people say this album takes forever to grow on you, but damn did i fall in love as soon as the fuzzy title-track burst into my headphones after the warm and soft intro. after hearing the title track, i knew this album was special. i will admit that it did seem to drag throughout the second half, but it didn't take long to appreciate it as much as the first half. the crazy song arrangements and the beautiful acoustic guitars (clean and fuzzy) are the main things i admired from this album. that being said, phil's unique vocals also drew me in. throughout most of the album they were soft and quiet. even most of the times he raises his voice it still seems very soft and quiet, yet he still conveys his emotion perfectly. this is one of the most unique albums i have ever heard.
