Definitely KC?s weakest record yet. The second and third tracks are alright, but the opener drags a bit and the closer is just not KC level. They take the experimentation a bit too far (imo) to where it just sounds disjointed and unfitting.

Crimson drops the jazz and experiments with classical. Ladies of the Road is pretty mediocre
and hard, the awesome Sailor's Tale is exciting with Fripp's great guitar work, but the best
of this album is the winding, soft, contemplative passages of strings. Prelude: Song of the
Gulls is probably one of my favorite songs ever. I highly recommend this album. Don't
believe all the people who hate this and approach it with an open mind.

An uneven rather transient record very much representative of the band's changing and evolving lineup. The musical fusion leans much further toward the jazz improvisation spectrum than rock seemingly agitating some of its fanbase. Sailor's Tale is the obvious staple to the affair however the harrowing almost gothic dirge Formentera Lady is most apt scoring for a future Hannibal Lecter cooking montage scene.

Even though a bit on improvisation mode at times (KC signature), its often brilliant and disturbing/ dark in the best way possible (something I adore on Red f.e.). I love how Sabbath meets Beatles on Ladies on the Road. My 2nd fave KC from the first 4. Underrated album!

Easy winner of most underrated KC album. Kind of feels important that in their discography is a more atmospheric, less abrasive jazz-fusion album amongst all the deep dives into dissonant Frippery

The near perfect blend of jazz, prog & classical. I recommand it if you like the Legendary Pink Dots (and if you like this record give the LPD "9 lives to wonder" a try). My favorite King Crimson record at this point in their career.
