5.0 classic | NightmareCinema16 | December 4th 12 | After the utter failure of his first symphony in Russia, Sergei Rachmaninoff, a genius of the late Romantic/early Contemporary age, had sought psychiatric help. During the period in which he had been working with a psychiatrist, he had began to have the thought in his head that he could create great music. That thought was what his psychiatrist had constantly said to him in the time he was composing Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18.
Piano Concerto Two is beyond words, and almost beyond analyzation. Each movement is incredibly unique and so well excercised between the Piano and the whole orchestra that it becomes a perfect blend. The combination of the use of Romantic and Contemporary music is also nearly perfect as well. The first movement, possibly the most well known, introduces the concerto with gusto, emotion, energy, and power. The second movement gives you a rest with one of the most calming pieces constructed by Rachmaninoff. The third movement revs up the bombastity, complexity, energy, and power by bring everything from the first two movements together. In a display of fury and power, the Piano Concerto ends with intense glory. Glory that only the likes of Beethoven, Mussorgsky, Bach, Copland, and Mozart could match.

5.0 classic | BillyBrill | January 22nd 22 | Been so long since I heard music as good as this. I was starting to get sad that I couldn?t in good faith give albums 5 anymore, but this just blew me away, powerful, beautiful, bittersweet, melancholic, energetic, all in 30 minutes. Really deserving of my first 5 in the last 150 albums or so I?ve rated

5.0 classic | charlopiano | May 11th 21 | It feels weird to call this underrated but I will. Rachmaninoff??s second concerto is underrated, not because it?s better than most people would think. It?s a 100 year old piece that has well stood the test of time. It?s underrated in the way that I don?t think it gets the respect it deserves. Because to stand amongst, Bach, Beethoven and Mozart, you better compose a good ass track, and that he did. To the point where it?s difficult to express with words. It doesn?t have one instantly iconic theme that everyone knows. It?s intricate, beautiful and rewarding. I feel like not playing this all the way through would be a disservice to the piece. It?s an amazing piece of music and definitely among my favorite piano pieces of all time.r

3.0 good | GamamJ | May 29th 20 | I clearly enjoyed this way less than I should have. The second movwment I thought was decent at best, the first was really great, and the last was very good as well. Might be being a little harsh with the 3, but the piece was way too romantic for my liking overall.

0.0 | commonist | September 30th 18 | 83/100. I don't know enough about classical music to analyze this Concerto, nor would my words do this piece justice. So instead, I'll focus on what I do know--- feeling. Rachmaninoff is a master of feeling, infusing each movement with intense emotion and passion. As other commenters have identified, each track captures a different idea, gliding from happiness to melancholy and everything in between with impressive style and ease. This is definitely one I'll have to sit on for awhile; but for the time being, I'll urge anyone reading this to listen to this Concerto as soon as possible. Excellent stuff.

4.5 superb | qwer7yfreak | January 30th 11 | This is an absolutely beautiful composition. This is one of Rachmaninoff's most emotional and haunting composition. The melodic lines are are both graceful and extremely powerful, the harmonies are gorgeous; this concerto is simply incredible. It's hard to capture just how much emotion Rachmaninoff manages to coax out of the piano and orchestra. This is definitely one of the best compositions of the late Romantic era.
