Beautiful krautrock & funk-informed fever dream full of hubris, nervous energy and bad vibes. Makes you wanna perform an exorcism on a pool and protect your semen from witches.

A classic album by the Thin White Duke, 'Station to Station' contains some of Bowie's finest material. The title track, "Golden Years", and "TVC 15" are all excellent tracks.

Station to Station was a groundbreaking release. At only 6 tracks long and featuring a distinct lack of commerciality, it's easy to underestimate its importance, but the experimental blend of plastic soul and detached arrangements proved to be massively influential over the following years. It also marked Bowie's departure from soul, and hinted at the sound he was moving towards - the metallic, fractured rock of his Berlin trilogy. Station to Station is definitely a transitional album; contemporary interviews and even the lyrics hinted at Bowie?s desire to return to Europe - most starkly on the title-track ("The European cannon is here"). Transitional albums are usually a mess, but Station is an exception - gracefully ducking its head below the parapet, saving itself from condemnation via the incredibly unique and influential sound it boasts. The end result is an album that ranks alongside Bowie's finest accomplishments.

'Station to Station' has always been among the more baffling turns in Bowie's progression, both in terms of how he ever landed on this patient, progressive fusion of krautrock and soft rock, as well as in terms of it being so difficult to love. I come away being more respectful of the work, than directly appreciating it. So much of this feels like it required a filter that wasn't there and that would only come in the form of Brian Eno and Tony Visconti later on. It is all a making of a truly impressive album that is just just too short of breath and nonchalant in its presentation to grab me. In the grander scheme of Bowie's lower moments, this certainly is a masterpiece uncomparable with all the rest, but in accounting for the better albums, I fail to rate it adequately high.

The kind of album that is really helped by biographical context of Bowie?s life. I?m not too thrilled by the songs, save Wild Is the Wind and the title track, but I?m not going to be as harsh as I would?ve been, considering the Lore behind the Thin White Duke

Cocaine is dangerous, but you can't say that there wasn't great art that came out of it. Jeez, for an album that the artist had little memory of, you'd think it would be an incoherent mess. rInstead, Station to Station is one of Bowie's most vulnerable and well-crafted albums that is an incredible mix of Krautrock, soul, electronic and funk.

Songs are generally overlong but I rate the way in which he relates his dehumanisation under cocaine addiction: straight up love songs 'Stay', 'Golden Years' and 'Word on the Wing' are performed with his bizarre, glacial soul voice. EDIT: Now one of my favourites.
