4.5 superb | Klamdog | April 26th 11 | This week I’m talking about “The Theory of Everything”, and by that I mean Children Collide’s latest album. Children Collide are an indie band from Melbourne who have been around for a little while now with their first releases being back in 2006. Their sound hasn’t really changed overtime and they stick to an alternative, indie rock sound that has does justice for a modern day rock band. Their first LP, “The Long Now” released in 2009, shares a similar sound to their latest offering with soft verses backed up by punchy distorted choruses. The three singles, “Future Monks”, “Jellylegs” and “My Eagle” all start the album off with a bang, but I cant help but feel that the second half of the album is a bit, hit and miss. Songs like “Complacency No Vacancy” and “Into the sky with Ivy” are awesome and easy to get into, the only song that I didn’t really like was “Loveless”. This song didn’t really seem to fit with the rest of the album in my opinion, but I suppose that it does give the album a bit of depth rather than one rock song after the other. These guys are also really great live, I’ve had the opportunity to see them at the Maram in Canberra and at the Big Day Out in Sydney, and they put on one hell of a show. If you enjoy bands like “British India” or “The Vines” than you will most likely enjoy this band.
