I kind of understand why some people sort of like these guys, but it's just not that great. There are one or two really good songs, but honestly... the vast majority of the songs on here are just not that great. 3.1/5

Jack White is innovative and all, re-inventing minimalistic, bareing-of-the-soul blues in his own form of garage rock. Having Meg White on the drums is really a part of the sound, and it works together well. The bare bones nature of his records is incredibly effective, especially here. However, as usually with Jack White's type of song writing, it's brimming with filler, which short hands White Blood Cells effectiveness. Still White Stripes best record though.

Having seldom given the White Stripes the time of day proper before, I found myself rocking and enjoying this almost instantly, despite largely thinking of them as a band of a few hits and otherwise standard okay okay alt rock band. I was surprised how much blues and noise influence was present and cleverly executed throughout the album, all tasty and catchy.

There is def. some filler on here, but I like the thump, the attitude and the song writing. Aside from Offend in Everyway, Hotel Yorba and I Think I Smell a Rat, I was really underwhelmed by the guitar work. It's still one of my 2 favorite Stripes albums. rLack of actual bass guitar feels a bit empty, as I believe someone said before.

I may be in the minority here, but I find White Blood Cells to be somewhat of a growing pain for The White Stripes. That's not that it's a bad album, as there's some truly excellent cuts here like "Hotel Yorba", "We're Going To Be Friends", "I Can't Wait" and "Now Mary", but much of this album is filler that feels like it has yet to find its niche. It's a shame, because more often than not, the tracks have something going for them yet don't progress at all or simply flutter out before anything can happen. The minimalist approach to garage rock is an interesting concept, but it's not performed to the best of either of the Whites' abilities, both in the songwriting department and in the lyrical one. The production sounds very good for the style, and really does wonders for the decidedly minimal music at hand. It's not their best effort, but it was a necessary one, because I doubt Elephant would've ended up as good as it is without White Blood Cells laying the (shaky) blueprint.

What a kickass garage album! The first half nine songs are as exciting and promising as any in the second half of the 90s, with the stunning drama of 'Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground', 'Expecting', and 'The Forever', adorable goofiness with 'Hotel Yorba' and 'We're Gonna Be Friends', the punk nugget 'Fell In Love With A Girl', the tender 'Same Boy You've Always Known' and the downright deadpan hilarity of 'I'm Finding It Harder To Be A Gentleman' ("Then you said "You almost dropped me"/ So then I did/And I got mud on my shoes"). But as high as the highs are, the lows really, really stink. The 50 second 'Little Room' is so pointless it's infuriating, and 'Aluminum' is a scrapy, sludgy waste that sounds like White's attempt to be Cobain. But he isn't; he lacks the great man's way with noise. The submissiveness of the album's final few songs is also disappointing, making us think that the album could've been thinned out a little. But look out for the light-stomp of 'Offend In Every Way' and the Bavarian murder-mystery 'I Think I Smell A Rat', which is as operatic as garage rock can get. Overall, "White Blood Cells" is good, but not good enough to guarantee a critics n fan surrender, merely good enough for us to hungrily await its follow up.

This was the first ROCK album I ever got, and I was amazed with it. I listened to it at least 100 times over the course of one Christmas holiday. It's got a nice campy sound to it, it has great rock songs on it, great sing along songs, and great love songs. Defiantly my favorite White Stripes CD I own, and one of my most prized CD's.
