Dark, dark, sexy, sexy moody jams right here. An overall ethereal sound that remains memorable because of ominous undertones.

Apokalypsis is an album I don't feel like I understand very well. It's so ethereal and slow that it is hard for me to maintain focus on it throughout its runtime. I think the alienation is partially the point, but it left me feeling disconnected emotionally from anything Chelsea was doing. I didn't dislike it, I just thought I should be getting more out of it than I did.

Paints a beautifully vivid picture of a post-apocalyptic landscape and world with it's caressing drums, steady but calm and subdued guitars, and of course, Chelsea's haunting vocals.

After what was a worthwhile ethereal wave-influenced dark folk record in The Grime And The Glow, Chelsea Wolfe evolved further into an even darker, more gothic sound on Apokalypsis and wrote some of her richest material in the process. The album has a very full sound to it in all aspects from the production to the songwriting. The echoes of the guitar and Wolfe's voice give the whole thing an otherworldly feel, while the general ambiance is one of cloudiness and uneasiness. Wolfe herself is typically wonderful, as she truly has the perfect voice for this kind of stuff, and she showcases this throughout. The stretch that begins at the re-recorded "Demons" and ends at the re-recorded "Moses" is undoubtedly the best stretch of material she had done up until this point, and is truly a perfection of her craft early on. Put simply, if you want to hear some dark folk influenced by darkwave and gothic rock with a lady that really sing, you're going to want to check this record quickly.

Dark ethereal soundscapes with lots of effects. Variety-- "Demons" is essentially a rock song, where "The Wasteland" is haunting electronic ambience and "Moses" is a heartwrenching ballad. The length is just right for the material. Excellent.

[INDUSTRIAL] This group is just getting better after every album. Another borderline 3.5-4/5 album on the list. Aside from the beginning track (very short, needless really), this album has nearly everything to make this album sound as depressing yet enveloping: creepy-sounding synthesizers, shoegaze-like guitar & bass work, and distorted vocals (technically a double-edge for me w/ as much as I love her voice). Another pretty enjoyable album to listen if you have the time.

I may not be able to pronounce the album name, but I can certainly describe the music. Chelsea Wolfe's third full length is a rewarding listening experience that's as beautiful as it is dark. Full of influences from post rock and folk to even black metal, the album melds many musical ideas without ever losing its focus. It's made even better only by Wolfe's surreal singing voice which only adds to the album's eerie, yet somber atmosphere.

Mer and Tracks (Tall Bodies) are amazing but after those two tracks the album takes a dip into pretty good territory before Movie Screen hits the peak she found in the second and third tracks. A great album, but what's greater is the promise she shows to release something very very good in the future
