I love most of the album. It's been in my collection for a decade or so and it's still fresh. Very ponderous, introspective, peaceful yet heavy. Electra 2000 and You'd Prefer an Astronaut were great albums, and Hum became one-hit wonders with "Stars" and put an earnest effort into one-upping their previous work. They really tried to experiment and do something special with the garage sound of the mid 90s, but their unique sound and longer song lengths didn't quite tick all the boxes for mainstream grunge or metal audiences.
"The Inuit Promise" might be my favorite, but it's really tough to pick. First six songs in a row are just hit after hit after hit.
A lost 90's gem, right in there with Failure's "Fantastic Planet" and Shiner's "Lula Divinia"... the space rock trio. I tend to get moods where I binge-listen to all the albums from all three bands. What am I saying? I'm always in that mood. :P

This is the album that got me on this site, back when I was in sophomore year of high school. I listened to it on Spotify while doing homework because I really liked 'Stars' and was absolutely flabbergasted at how amazing it was. I immediately dove into the internet to see if I was just nuts or if this was actually good. Still holds a special place in my heart.

I originally downloaded this album years ago on recommendation for my enjoyment of Irepress, and just listening to it now, I cannot put into words my absolute amazement! Rarely does a band create a sound that entirely escapes description. Shoegaze, sludge, post-hardcore, 90's alt., psych-rock; all of these names describe the band's sound, but none of them nearly do the band's sound justice. I never would have found this band on my own and it is a tragedy that such an amazing album is so overlooked. 4.2/5

After Hum hit the home run that would lead them to the world series, they would hit a grand slam in the world series. How you can top "You'd Prefer an Astronaut" is beyond me, but Hum did it.

My favorite album by my favorite band. "You'd Prefer An Astronaut" has a few more memorable songs, but I think that mainly has to do with the consistency of how well this record is orchestrated. The story behind "If You Are To Bloom" is incredibly moving, too, to match a simply beautiful song.
