A very good album in a genre mostly known of dullness. Dispossession is fucking awesome. Absolutely great for a debut album, recommended.

Building upon an improved misery signal-esque formula, Northlane arrives as Australia's
newest metalcore export. 'Discoveries' is quite the debut; containing some interesting ideas
and enough variation to keep it delving into repetitive metalcore we've all witnessed in the
past. The guitar lines are thick and fast, the vocalist has an impressive screaming range,
and the production and general musicianship remains tight throughout. Here's to hoping
Discoveries lays a firm grounding for better metalcore releases to come.

The more I listen to this album, the more I start to understand the concepts and ideas Adrian had in mind. This is such a spiritually empowering album that will deeply resonate with you if you are on a journey to enlightenment yourself whilst also into the metalcore genre. rThis album has a very dark vibe to it in contrast but executes it very well. Instrumental musicianship is also superb. Although not super technical or progressive, the synergy between the two guitarists flows very naturally and definitely hits hard with balancing melody. Drums are superb as well.rThis album engages a part of me emotionally in a special way that no other album has ever touched. It covers the problems of everyday life, the want to power through struggles, the balancing beauty and corruption of life (such as ying/yang) and the government, thus spiritual awakening to live life to it's fullest. For years, I could not understand the hype over this band, but finally this year I have realized it. It's constantly on replay wherever I go. Currently covering Abrasumente on my new 7 string guitar now too! Very rare to find bands that are "awake" in this generation which makes Northlane a definite golden discovery.

progcore with djent tones woop woop. not that much woop woop tho: although the musicians know how to play their instruments - that's a minimum -, it does not stray too much from typical metalcore, except from maybe these teeny tiny clean melodies that are nice but do not take sufficient space to be truly impacting.

Imo an absolute prog metalcore classic. With deep spiritual lyrics and really technical progressive instrumentals making their sound give this feel of epicness. Then also Adrian having a amazing wide screaming range and he uses some unexpected soothing clean vocals in a couple songs. That makes this debut a one of a kind for me.
