05.24.24 | I honestly am not sure what to make of it so far. It's such an off kilter, awkward film. Not in a bad way though. |

05.24.24 | Yo, I actually fucking hated this movie at the beginning of it. Some of the camera angles and weird shit was making me feel nauseous and I wanted to turn it off so bad. I stuck it out tho and really came around to it by the end. I was impressed by the sheer amount of social commentary about different topics they managed to cram into such a weird ass movie. |

05.24.24 | I had the same reservations as well, I wasn't sure what this movie was really going for but once Bella actually explores the world it finally clicked and I started enjoying it. I think that's why the beginning was in black and white, and then she finally starts to understand herself more and experience actual living for herself the movie becomes more rich, surreal, and multi faceted. Brilliant performances too, I totally get the praise. Still not certain about the fish eye and peephole angles but I assume it's to just add to the surrealist feel of it.
It's also a genuinely funny film. |

05.24.24 | Being a Lanthimos fan, I enjoyed it a lot, very funny flick, probably not as thought-provoking / unsettling as his past works, but still very over-the-top, artsy and original for the mainstream praise it got. The amount of creativity put into it is insane. |

05.24.24 | I'm a big fan of Lanthimos so I was incredibly excited for this. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with it. From the trailer it seemed like the perfect film for me judging from the technical aspects. The sets are incredible and Lanthimos style in his shot composition is just so unique and awesome. The film itself is good. It has some funny moments particularly from Mark Ruffalo's character who was by far the most entertaining aspect of the film for me. Bella Baxter was a really interesting lead character conceptually but nothing about her really connected with me and I am not really sure why. Again because of that I spent most of my time during the film being in awe of the technical aspects rather than getting invested in the story. That scene in the ball was peak Lanthimos though. It's a solid 3.5/5 but it didn't hold up to my expectations. |

05.24.24 | incredible film |

05.24.24 | Extremely funny, good social commentary, incredible production values and costuming. The laugh that burst out of me at the beginning when the dude went "what a pretty retard" is the hardest I've laughed in a theater ever probably. |

05.24.24 | Its a very quotable film, the entire ship sequence is superb. This was actually my first Lanthimos film, which one of his would you recommend next? |

05.24.24 | Great film. Also appreciated dystopic Lisbon. |

05.25.24 | Film is a turkey, although Stone commits hard and Ruffalo is on form. It all looks nice though. |

05.25.24 | Really good movie but the black dude had the acting chops of cardboard. Really stood out among everything else that was on screen. |
ConcubinaryCode
05.25.24 | The cynic guy? I thought he was alright, his scenes weren't amazing or anything but I wouldn't say it hurt the film. I really enjoyed Dafoe's performance too, though I agree Ruffalo was fun to watch. I was reading he thought he wasn't right for the role but he seems to be the one people remember the most. Funny that |

05.25.24 | As you liked Poor Things definitely check the directors other film, The Favourite, which is my favourite of his. If you want some of his weirder stuff definitely check The Lobster and Dogtooth as well. |
DDDeftoneDDD
05.25.24 | Ahah I saw The Favorite the other day - good it lacks climax. Got The Lobster on the pipeline, coincidently! |
ConcubinaryCode
05.25.24 | Oh he did the lobster too? That has been in my watch list for a while but I never got around to it. Def gonna bump it up for priority now though! I'll look into the other two as well. Ty |

05.25.24 | Movie is definitely fucking weird, man. Don't know I feel about a literal child in woman's body has sex and is somehow ok cause shes a woman on the outside. The brain transplant scene is scarred into my mind, so fucking graphic. Anything gore to do with the brain makes me wince every time. |
Ryus
05.25.24 | the movie was pretty explicit about her aging at an accelerated rate
and its supposed to be weird/off putting on some level ofc |
BAT
05.25.24 | i haven't seen poor things but i have seen frankenhooker, that was pretty gud i suppose |
Tundra
05.27.24 | "the movie was pretty explicit about her aging at "an accelerated rate"
Yeah I got that part, but the thing that weirded me out the most was near the beginning of the movie, Ruffalo's character was specifically attracted to Stone's character cause she had child like mannerisms but shes a woman on the outside, so its somehow ok to basically abduct her and take advantage of her, despite her obvious naivety |
artificialbox
05.27.24 | I have a feeling that was just another layer of social commentary on the infantilization of women and our collective obsession with youth but yea it was really off putting to me to |
Gameofmetal
05.28.24 | It was extremely clearly bad that Ruffalo found her so attractive and essentially abducted her lol, that was the point. |
