Unwound's most accessible album, if you ignore the interludes (lol): some of the songs here are
pretty standard structure and less out there than repetition; you sorta think "could this have
been on the radio?" with songs like "demolished" and "re-encact the crime" feel pretty user
friendly. Obviously to a degree. |

Cold Year Of The Spider |
Cold Cold |
This album immediately proves cold's biggest strength: the ability to make a musical atmosphere
that just grabs you. There are some real monolithic guitar tones and crunchy songs here and just
feels out there, sort of alien. Scooter's lyrics are the only thing holding it back, he does
repeat words like "suffocate" and "everyone" a bit too many times (and its pretty noticeable), and
he hasn't reached his vocal potential (yet). A great debut album, and ahead of its time (to a
degree). |
Cold A Different Kind of Pain |
Very sombre and depressing, even for cold standards, but it feels authentic. Sometimes the song structures feel a little formulaic, yeah, but the vibe you get from it is just something else, with the extensive use of piano and vocals creating a massive atmosphere. Probably one of the better post-heyday nu metal albums (though to be honest, this album shows more than anything else that they were able to detach themselves from the label). One to grow on and definitely good for therapy.r |

Coal Chamber Coal Chamber |
I can understand why Coal Chamber's album became popular- because simply, it is catchy. Yeah, this
album is a definitive cliche of the scene (and here on out became an oft-replicated and diluted
cliche), but holy fuck they know how to make shit catchy as hell, even with substandard production
and bass tone. If it didn't have that, It would probably be a 1 star. |

Otep Smash the Control Machine |
This is the beginning/point of origin of Otep's "hello fellow kids! wanna do politics" mentality, where politics begins to take a forefront. It's still catchy, and it does feel like all the members on the album (same lineup as sevas tra) have definitely improved as musicians. Otep's growls, which sound like a cross-breed between sevas tra and house of secrets, are the worst part here, the damage to her vocal chords is really evident and distracting- from the get go, when she awkwardly screams "lets commit a hate crime". But you know what? It's not bad. especially compared to whatever comes afterward. |

shit packaging that damages peoples vinyl, $193 dollar scam. pls can we collectively call glassjaw
out on their bullshit for making these awful limited edition things that always get scalped and
shit? Id rather have our color green on cd than a set of dirty vinyls with no proper protection.
On that note: eywtkas and wat arent bad albums, plus i wish theyd have put coloring book encore
into the vinyl instead. oh well. |

step aside Limp Bizkit... this is the worst "nu metal" album of all time. And while yes, it is
borderline gothic metal, it still constitutes as a nu metal release. trash. And yes, Tairrie B
used to be better than this in bands like Manhole/Tura Satana. (albeit, it should be noted that
later My Ruin material is somewhat of an improvement) |

Weezer Make Believe |
If this had been an 5 song EP consisting of "Beverly Hills", "Perfect Situation", "We Are All on Drugs", "This Is Such a Pity" and "Haunt You Every Day", this may have been like a tolerable 3 star record. rUnfortunately, it goes on for 9 more songs. The album just feels so feeble: i understand there's supposed to be "vulnerbalility", but here it just feels like Rivers Cuomo is playing the victim; he is in a bad place, yet does not do anything to get out of it, or even try to make an effort; pathetic really (Hold Me, Peace, The Other Way and Freak Me Out are worst offenders). Rick Rubin's polish also makes the album sorta dead and pulls any punches the album could have delivered really. Extremely disappointing. |
Weezer Raditude |
