Blondshell Blondshell
Grungy, loud, moody. Emotional, vulnerable lyrics. Olympus, Tarmac, Sepsis are the clear highlights for me.
Boygenius the record
Singles had me under the impression it was going to be a little more rock forward than what we ended up getting. Lucy is my #1 but Julien's songs definitely shine the brightest. On the flip side, Phoebe's are the weakest and they all sound like Punisher part 2. Disappointed isn't the right word but maybe my expectations were too high.
Bully Lucky For You
Super sticky hooks and crunchy guitars blaring - It rips.

With each spin the album opens up a little more, the lyrics and arrangements unfurl a bit more. While the arrangements are typically understated, I feel like it works to great effect and reflects the uncertainty and anxiety that the lyrics of this album emanate. The cynical and biting humor in the lyrics of Moviegoer bring light and details to a song that could otherwise be drab. The pounding chorus of Love, Try Not To Let Go creates a palpable sense of anxiety, which releases as the song shifts back to its cool, plodding groove. The album does have its missteps like the ballad Too In Love To Die which drags on feeling exceptionally slow following the vibrant I Was Neon and a little flat as it does not reach the emotional peaks of its followup Less of A Stranger. Maybe the themes just resonate with me and the emotional connection I feel to them has upped my rating, but I'm buying what Julia is selling.

Another album of same-sounding, midtempo synth pop songs (I dont't think they deserve to be
called bops) followed up by 15 same-sounding, midtempo piano ballads - Riveting. While I
will concede there are some decent tracks in here, self editing and some trimming would have
done this album wonders. Not every song that gets written needs to be released.
