| Some Ambient Records I Adore
Any albums that could generally be described as being ambient.
No particular order.
Recs are appreciated. | 1 | | Jonsi and Alex Riceboy Sleeps | 2 | | Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works 85-92
You know you're an amazing artist if you can make an album that is a landmark in two different genres; Ambient and Electronica. | 3 | | The Orb The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld
Spacey, Dubby, Dancey, it's perfect. | 4 | | Stars Of The Lid And Their Refinement Of The Decline
Peaceful......is much more needed? | 5 | | Belong October Language
Beneath all the sound you may find Belong's extreme talent for creating gentle melodies and mind-sweeping textures. | 6 | | Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion
Ok, ok, just let me explain. While most regard this as a psychedelic pop gem, the amount of samples, field recordings, and general wall-of-sound production proves that this could very well be one of the few Ambient-Pop records. | 7 | | Brian Eno Another Green World
^...........this is also one of the few | 8 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor F# A# ?
If you don't see the relationship between post-rock and ambient music, you should listen to this record. Or you're just a fucking idiot. | 9 | | David Bowie Low
While only half of the record could be described as Ambient, it's a brilliant half of a record. The other is pretty sweet too. | 10 | | Boris Sun Baked Snow Cave
If you ever feel like listening to a 62 minute song, I recommend this album. | 11 | | Tangerine Dream Phaedra | 12 | | Eluvium Copia
While the string sounds get grating for me personally, this is still a beautifully written album. | 13 | | Biosphere Substrata
This is probably one of the best ambient records ever created. Completely ethereal and natural sounding, it is themed around cool glaciers, frosty mountains, runny water, whatever freezing conceptual ideas come to mind. While synths and piano provide the main part for most of the songs, it's the textural electronics and field recordings that drive it. | |

01.23.10 | 2 is so goood | couldwinarabbit
01.23.10 | 2,7,11 are spectacular. I do however think that MPP is one of the most overrated albums of all time. | FlawedPerfection
01.23.10 | Check out Tim Hecker's An Imaginary Country and Rhian Sheehan's Standing in Silence. Two of the best ambient records of 2009. | Enotron
01.23.10 | Thanks. I've listened to Harmony In Violet by Tim Hecker and I think it's spectacular. | Illitoris
01.23.10 | Yeah, that Tim Hecker album and Heresy by Lustmord are tighter than a pussy. You've probably checked these but:
William Basinski - The Disintegration Loop II
Steve Roach - Structures From Silence
Marble Sky - The Sad Return
The KLF - Chill Out
Drowning The Virgin Silence - Beneath The Sulfur Sky
Biosphere - Substrata
| Enotron
01.23.10 | HOLY SHIT! I completely forgot about Substrata and that's one of my favorite ambient albums of all time!
The question is which one do I replace it with............ | Illitoris
01.23.10 | 6 or 13's fine in my book. |
