12.02.23 | Probably the best Godzilla movie, and the most essential theater viewing of the year. Saw this in IMAX and it was hands down the best theater experience I have ever had. The fact that this was made for 15 million is utter madness |

12.02.23 | I am intrigued |

12.02.23 | It was RAD! Everyone, go see it NOW! |

12.02.23 | I really gotta see this. looks incredible, IMAX must have been something |
Durrzo
12.02.23 | I'm seeing it on Monday, really excited. No Imax near me but I have a Cinemark XD showing nearby, close enough. |
Vercetti
12.02.23 | Saw it yesterday. It was great! Really one the best Godzilla films. |

12.02.23 | Watching this one tomorrow night. As Iowa's biggest Godzilla fan, I am absolutely stoked. |
Brabiz
12.02.23 | I saw King Of Monsters in IMAX and wasn’t particularly impressed, so the fact that this small budget Godzilla blew that out of the water tenfold says a lot |
MeatSalad
12.02.23 | Yea the only decent American Godzilla flick was the 2014 one. This one looks great, definitely wanna check it while it's in theaters |
Vercetti
12.02.23 | >Yea the only decent American Godzilla flick was the 2014 one
I disagree. Godzilla 2014 had several really good scenes, but was also lacking a good story to hold them together. King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong both were more fun. Those also didn't have a good story (they were actually quite bad in that regard), but the monster fights were a lot of fun and made them so much more entertaining. That said, Minus One is easily better than all of the American films |
Uzumaki
12.02.23 | King of the Monsters was the most fun because it was the most nostalgic. Vs. Kong was stupid because everything was dumbed down past the point of enjoyment. I did enjoy Minus One tho. |
MeatSalad
12.03.23 | I remember the really distracting overuse of blue orange contrast in King of the Monsters more than anything about the movie itself. My inner child loved the oldschool Godzilla monsters being brought in tho |
Slex
12.03.23 | NEED to see this movie |
AnimalForce1
12.03.23 | Seeing Minus One today with the girlfriend! I’m unbelievably hyped. I watched King of the Monsters recently and I enjoyed it. It was a dumb film, but it was dumb fun, and watching kaiju clash is always an enjoyable time |

12.09.23 | Update! Saw this 4 times, 3 times in IMAX and once in 4DX. Each viewing got progressively worse, with the audience being very rude and disruptive. Movie is still incredible. Would love to see it again, but that last time completely ruined the movie for me, never seen an entire audience that restless and loud. May wait for streaming / Blu-ray |
Brabiz
12.09.23 | Since this is a music site, I’d like to add that the soundtrack is amazing |

12.10.23 | FINALLY saw this last night after delays. Me and the GF were both flabbergasted that a Godzilla movie could leave us teary-eyed.
Utterly fantastic movie, and Godzilla’s roar lives in my nightmares |
MeatSalad
12.10.23 | Catching it on tuesday, hoping it lives up to the beeg hype |
AnimalForce1
12.10.23 | Enjoy!! It’s a good Godzilla movie, and just a good movie in general |

12.10.23 | nothing beats the og, but goddamn is it a killer classical blockbuster |

12.10.23 | ^ [2] saw it on opening day |

12.10.23 | niiiiiiiice i literally saw it for a second time yesterday, a friend really wanted to see it and i had no reservations seeing it again. if anything it grew on me!! |

12.10.23 | My friends are going to see it today but I’m busy packing for a move. Looks incredible and can’t wait to see it. Never saw Shin Godzilla so maybe I’ll do a double feature |
Durrzo
12.11.23 | Shin Godzilla is fucking wild. Definitely worth it just to see such a different take on the monster. |
AnimalForce1
12.11.23 | I need to watch Shin Godzilla. Hell, all of Anno’s Shin movies are on my watchlist |
Brabiz
12.11.23 | Shin Godzilla is really well made, but maybe too long, the effects don't hold up, and i don't think it's very emotionally resonant. Not one of my favorites, sadly. |
neekafat
12.11.23 | Shin is a really unique take on the character yes, but agreed I don’t think it’s as strong as Minus One |
Sevengill
12.11.23 | A consistent appraisal of Shin is that it benefits from an audience that understands and appreciates its skewering of Japan's bureaucracy and government inaction during a national emergency. That's why it won so many awards there right up to picture of the year. I'm not that audience, so, though I liked it, I do feel like I missed a layer of its appeal. |
AnimalForce1
12.11.23 | I feel like, at least for audiences here in the West, a bit of background research is probably a good idea before watching Shin. Which, admittedly, can be a massive turn-off for a lot of people (I don't blame them at all) |
Sevengill
12.11.23 | Anon want smash toys together like Legendary |
Rowan5215
12.11.23 | fantastic movie, did not expect to get teary eyed multiple times. Doc's speech is one of my favourite movie moments this year
also while I'm here, 2014 is good, KOTM absolutely sucked lol |
KevinKC
12.11.23 | King of the monsters was very good. |
AnimalForce1
12.11.23 | Yeah, King of the Monsters was wonderful. It doesn't have the best human plot, but it did the job just fine, and the monster fights were spectacular |
Rowan5215
12.11.23 | it's got some great visuals let down by possibly one of the worst scripts in recent memory. dialogue is atrocious, Whitford's character is one of the most annoying people ever in a movie and the villain motivation is thunderously stupid. imagine casting Brian Tyree Henry and giving him... that lol. genuinely cannot imagine The Human Stuff getting any worse |
Vercetti
12.11.23 | Brian Tyree Henry wasn't in KotM. He was in GvK |
Sevengill
12.11.23 | KotM was pretty good but Raymond Burr grates after a while |
Brabiz
12.13.23 | “benefits from an audience that understands and appreciates its skewering of Japan's bureaucracy and government inaction during a national emergency” and as someone who was aware of this, I think it’s stupidly well written, and genuinely great, but I fr felt no emotion regarding the characters because there really weren’t any. At no point was anyone like, freaking out or anything. It feels almost like it’s presented in a documentary format, and that’s definitely the appeal for a lot of people, but not for me personally. Minus One straight up made me cry lmao. |
Durrzo
12.13.23 | Minus One is the better movie, no contest, Shin just has the most distinct take on the monster I've ever seen and I love how weird it gets. That last shot is crazy.
Minus One, on top of the best human story by a landslide, also has the most badass use of the breath imo. I mean hooooly shit dude, that first use in the city, jaw dropper. |
Sevengill
12.13.23 | yeah it takes the best human story title from Biollante. Shiragami was a real one though. |
AnimalForce1
12.13.23 | "I mean hooooly shit dude, that first use in the city, jaw dropper."
You could hear a pin drop in the theater when he unleashed that shit. It's animated so spectacularly too! |
Rowan5215
12.13.23 | "Brian Tyree Henry wasn't in KotM. He was in GvK"
this is what I get for typing on a nasty covid fever lol
still think they absolutely wasted him but GvK is quality dumb fun |
MeatSalad
12.13.23 | Movie was awesome, still have yet to see the OG but it's by far the best Godzilla movie I've seen and a very solid film otherwise. That scene with the main dude screaming as he gets rained on by dirt/ash/mud or w.e was absolutely harrowing |
Azazzel
12.13.23 | I guess I've seen too much classic Japanese cinema to have my socks blown off by schmaltzy melodrama with all the hype around this though I admit I'm not a kaiju fanboy yet got my money's worth in that regard |
Brabiz
12.14.23 | Thankfully I’ve also seen a lot of classic Japanese cinema, and can also appreciate a very well made, universally appealing blockbuster (this) |
IsisScript80
12.16.23 | I just saw this on release day, here in the U.K., and whilst I found it good, it didn't meet my (possibly over-elevated) expectations, unfortunately.
It had a lot of great things going for it, but the overall set of contrivances brought it down a lit for me. Gets within touching distance of something classic, but doesn't hit the mark.
"Minus One is the better movie, no contest, Shin just has the most distinct take on the monster I've ever seen and I love how weird it gets. That last shot is crazy."
'Shin...' is by far, THE most radical take on the franchise, and I loved it for that. Again though, I don't think it all comes together as a movie. I get the feeling that Anno didn't get to make the full vision of the movie he wanted to (only HINTS at what at his overriding vision was). I know for a fact that there was an incredible scene that was cut in it for being too disturbing/outlandish, which is a pity. |
AnimalForce1
12.16.23 | "'Shin...' is by far, THE most radical take on the franchise, and I loved it for that."
I mean, that's what happens when you get the Evangelion guy to make a Godzilla movie |
IsisScript80
12.16.23 | ^ True. Still needs the licensor to approve it, and that tends to be evermore rare. |
Rowan5215
03.31.24 | man the new one is so fucking dumb lol. maybe Minus One set my expectations too high but that's easily the worst of this new franchise, the fight scenes aren't even good |
Vercetti
03.31.24 | I mean, Minus One has nothing to do with the monsterverse movies... |
Rowan5215
03.31.24 | i mean i did not say it did |
neekafat
03.31.24 | King of the Monsters mighta been worse. but man were they close |
Rowan5215
03.31.24 | as much as I hate KOTM it had some occasional really cool framing and fight design which is more than I can say for the new one lol |
Sharenge
05.05.24 | so uh yeah... finally getting a chance to watch this and I feel like I just feel very confused and lost as to what the fuck is even going on way more than I should be
being delivered in a very incoherent manner I don't know if I like missed a text panel at the beginning with a set up or something (okay, yeah I guess I missed the "1945 - final days of WWII" bit)
so yeah missing that combined with Godzilla rolling up out of nowhere in the first five minutes was I guess what threw me |
Sharenge
05.05.24 | people made it out like this was like a straight remake of the original which probably added to my confusion... it's seeming like that's not actually correct, it's its own thing and they doing there own thing with Godzilla it's not the same Godzilla from original...
alright I guess I'm wrong about OG Godzilla I guess he is the same Godzilla... for some reason I thought OG Godzilla was (purely) a result of like nuclear testing
lol he Wolverine now |
