Agalloch The Mantle
This took awhile for me to truly get into, but bloody hell it's gorgeous. It's sweet, somber, yet warm and embraceable all at the same time. It only encompasses peace the farther you get into it. Furthermore it's all done so in a way that's not truly describable.
Agalloch The White
"The White" ep is essentially The Mantle if they stripped down the black metal influences and stuck entirely with the folk aspect of it, and it's truly gorgeous, The acoustic bit at the end of "The Isle of Summer" will warm the most languid of souls, as will all of the sparkling melodies off this album.
Alexisonfire Watch Out!
Artificial Brain Artificial Brain
Be'lakor Stone's Reach
Stone's Reach is bloody fucking fun and grand. There are a variety of riffs, all intriguing and simple enough to work as incredible hooks yet complex enough to impress, which is an odd balance to strike. One can say the same about the drumming, however it's really how this all comes together (as well as those well-done snarls) that make this the beast of an album it is. It starts with a fucking banger and ends with one of the most spine tingling epics in melodic death metal.
Caladan Brood Echoes Of Battle
This is the world's best album ever and don't you dare dispute it.
Candlemass Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
This riffs. This riffs constantly, and every riff is perfect, and let me just tell you there are PLENTY of riffs. If you don't like riffs (then you're a fucking idiot) then I respect your disdain for them and understand you will not enjoy this album. Also, the vocals are the most operatic yet sinister thing there is, so there's that.
Cobalt Gin
Converge Jane Doe
On "Jane Doe" Converge creates an album that feels like a harpoon piercing your flesh. The drums blast away like a frantic pulse, the guitar riffs so like constant unrestrained havok akin to star going supernova, and the vocals sound like with each enraged shriek blood will spew forth as the vocalist shreds his throat. It's the anger of the universe in a compact disc, ready to be spilled out unto the listener.
Counterparts A Eulogy for Those Still Here
Counterparts You're Not You Anymore
ri cant think of a fucking soundoff fuckrEdit-Riffs. Crushing, ravenous riffs. Melodic, pure melodious riffs. Technical, complex riffs. rchug riffs. For real though, while the personal attachment I have to their prior albums isn't quite rthere because i'm in a much happier state than I once was, i'm stilled impressed by the ability to rexpand upon prior sounds Counterpart has. Every facet of their music only keeps getting better. rThe drums are more varied and powerful, Brendans screams much more visceral, use of clean vocals rmuch more tasteful, and entire song structure are simply crafted better than before. Every ounce rof this short album has a purpose, making this -possibly- their best release.
Counterparts Nothing Left to Love
Bro steak dude I love you man we all gay n shit yanno
Cryptopsy None So Vile
Really, this is the way to go extensively brutal without coming across as a brainless meathead (sort of jk). This album convinces you that there is actually a disgusting monster behind it, because Lord Worms vocals are about the most ugly thing in dm (well, maybe Demilich, but those start to border hilarity for me). Then there is the balls-dropping riffs and the absolutely furious drumming. This epitomizes heavy, and is probably the most beastly album there is.

Falls of Rauros The Light That Dwells in Rotten Wood
Fallujah The Flesh Prevails
Fallujah Nomadic
Extremely close to a 5 mostly because of Venom Upon the Blade. Honestly however, Fallujah's ethereal-style of technical death metal really peaks here, playing with dynamics beautifully and attaining levels of grandiose rarely achieved in music.

Immolation Close to a World Below
Insomnium Above the Weeping World
Jesus man, where do I even start? The album resonates beauty, passion. The amount of heart and soul poured into this is almost surreal. This album isn't genre bending, it works very strictly in melodeath, but it is the embodiment of what many melodeath bands strives to be but often can't quite achieve. Somewhere they get lost in drinking and viking lore and promoting the glorification of war in their music, which is fun and all, but in my eyes, melodic death metal can do so much more. Insomnium shows it off this album.

Brilliant. So calm and soothing, like watching a vanilla-crimson sun set over lapping ocean waves. Easily the most grounded and uplifting hip hop albums, if not albums as a whole, i've ever heard. In addition to the gorgeous aesthetic presented their is an incredible level of diversity between beats, giving every track it's own distinct qualities in spite of feeding into the same love-based theme.

I feel like a fool for putting off finishing this record for so long. It's so dark and harrowing and it does such a great job swapping between trudging riffs and evil chants and murky-ass super sonic tremolos. Also the vocalist isn't human, with his perfect rasps and growls and howls and sounds that aren't describable. So yeah, this rules.
There Will Be Fireworks The Dark, Dark Bright
Ulver Bergtatt - Et eeventyr i 5 capitler
This album is something I both love and respect. It is essentially what kick started it's brand of folk black metal, and is one of the earliest black metal albums to show the untapped potential of its genre. The album transports you, taking the listener into the farthest reaches of the Nordic woods into a land of beauty unknown by any other man. It is an album of both unfamiliarity and comfort, alienness and warmth.

Warning Watching from a Distance
The honesty is immense, the sadness drips forth like water from crack in a rotting sewer staining soil...honestly, I was taken completely aback by this album, because my expectations were high, and this absolutely crushed them. It exceeds with flying colors, or should I say gray colors, by utilizing the power that grief can have when it's portrayed for what it is or can be. Grief that brought me nearly to tears.

This album was absolutely gorgeous, especially the first track "The Isle". Their vocals has such a melancholy yet peaceful voice, which is only served to contrast with his disgusting, menacing gutturals. The album as a whole is both beastly yet beautiful and potentially the best doom metal album I have ever heard.
Ahab The Call of the Wretched Sea
AJJ People Who Can Eat People are the Luckiest People
Ajj is the sonic equivalent of a life journey. The ups and downs and all of the in betweens are present off this album, which contains both a sense of fun and a sense of nihilism. Really, it's just the most human record I've come across, and for that it is perfect.

August Burns Red Found in Far Away Places
This is probably the most experimental release ABR has put forth. It plays with different instrumentation (including a violin) as well as different sounds thematically , including some rather western acoustic. It also has one of the most killer build- ups with those nasty shreds in "the Wake" so there's that.
August Burns Red Rescue & Restore
This album is my baby and is THE consummate ABR album, imo. It's easily their most intriguing and personal, although perhaps it's also a great example of it being a "time and place" album from ne, uplifting me from the deepest of trenches. Overall its beautiful, and will always remain as the golden chariot of its genre to me.

More bands need to blend post-rock structures with emo, because this is fucking brilliant. It's energetic, it's calm, it's cathartic. The build-ups in this album are perfect, and when they finally come to a head, it's like a floodgate just broke and you are being swept away by thousands of tons of force. This also has the most powerful drumming I've heard off of an emo record (even if my emo experience is limited).

This was absolutely off the fucking wall and probably my favorite Glassjaw thus far. It ends with such an outburst of passionate rage that it just hnnnnngggg yeah this is fucking good ok.
Glassjaw Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence
This is rage entirely unrefined and unfiltered. Swirling disheveled chaos and a mix of "broken" cleans and harsh screams are resplendent here. Instrumentally it's amazing as well. Only two things that bothered me here would be the looping sample on the second to last track. And to those saying this is misogynistic-it might be, but I also think he just really fucking hates one specific woman. Perhaps a tad too much....

Mayhem De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
In terms of musicianship this isn't exactly top tier, but it essentially ushered in a whole wave of music while retaining an honesty in the image they project. Mayhem really is one of the most monumental black metal bands. This of course isn't to say their musicianship isn't solid-theirs great riffs, hellhammer is a goddamn beast of a drummer, and Attila has a very distinctive vocal style that's sinister as hell.
Mgla Exercises in Futility
There's a certain blend of atmospheres surrounding "Exercise In Futility" that make it so unique and fantastic. It can be raw and thunderous, filled with vigor and grandiose, or it can be dark and lugubrious. The different moods are transitioned into each other so incredibly well that they blend into a beautiful melting pot of sound. What else is incredible about this album is the level of proficiency and accessibility there is- there is an extensive variety of riffs and drum patterns, and all of them are completely cohesive (topped with some perfect mid-range coarse shouts of course). "Exercise in Futility" is very straightforward, but it perfects what it does.

The Dillinger Escape Plan Option Paralysis
This is the album where Dillinger finds a perfect balance between beauty and madness. There are wild guitar riffs and thunderous drumming (topped with the usual earth shattering shrieks), but there are also jazzy breaks with gorgeous, sweeping piano and heartwrenching croons (looking at you Widower). Wolves in the Throne Room Diadem of 12 Stars
Wolves is one of the few bands who can make such a massive album without much distinguishable variety and still sound incredible. The overall product is ethereal and manages to sound rambunctious and pulsating while being light and fleeting at the same time. It whisks you away into autumn forests colored gorgeous shades of scarlet and auburn, a feeling that would be just as (if not more) evocative off of "Two Hunters".
Wolves in the Throne Room Two Hunters
Everything I can say about "Diadem" is just as applicable here. What makes this slightly different (perhaps even *slightly* better) is that it is more concise, and while it does manage to wander off in its own otherworldly sea, it wastes absolutely no time in getting there. Why hold back on the monolithic adventure that awaits?

This is the most concise album I think that

This dabbles in so many moods ranging from a slight melancholy to completely unrestrained jazziness. It can be slow and brooding or crazy and chaotic, and it pushes these moods with such power and conviction all the while remaining ridiculously eclectic, making this an absolute beauty and an essential prog rock album.

A very worthy follow up to Jane Doe if there ever were one. The rage is toned down slightly but it only shows how well Converge can play around with different tempos while still retaining their core sound. Only downside to this album is that the last track doesn't feel like a proper closing track (the s/t would be a better closer imo), but otherwise this is flawless.

Really this is just about as classic as death metal gets and the fact that it was made by 16 year olds only pumps it up more. It is brutal yet not mindlessly. Their are little intricacies that kind of weave there way through (especially those drums.)

Hath Of Rot And Ruin
Hath strikes a beautiful balance between monstrous density and spacy, airy melodies. There are earth shattering chugs and blast beats and gnarly growls that transition nearly symphonic metal-like cleans and arpeggios that all feel uniquely Hath. If anything, Hath sounds like a band that takes from anything and everything in a way to paint their own vivid image of scoured desert landscapes and full scale hellish warfare. This rules.

There are so many good riffs off this damn album, but that's not what really steals the show. It's Brett's ability to shred with such fiery passion alongside some of the best drum patterns Mastodon's ever shown that makes this incredible. Only qualm is occasionally the vocals get TO softened for my taste but otherwise this is stellar.

This album comes as a concoction of black metal riffing savagery and isolated, icy atmospheric that makes you feel like you have been left to freeze to death in an unforgiving, unyielding cavern. It's creative and interesting, with a constant barrage of new riffs and drum patterns. Top this off with some hella cavernous and beastly growls/shouts and you have a record that is both "fun" and abrasive.

This album is delightfully wonky, as one would expect from the works of Mike Patton. There's some jazz, some funky beats, some cacophonous terror noise type of shit, this album encompasses so many genres while unifying it into one fun, albeit wild, ride. Would be a 5 if not for that 30 seconds of diarrhea sounds but I mean you can't have everything in life.

Edit- This is basically Ne Obliviscaris dabbling
in tech death which is quite an interesting road
for them to take (one full of great melodies and
constant bombast, aka the feeling they have always
conveyed). The new bassist has a lot of flair and
definitely proved himself off this record.

This is so damn superb. Their is a blistering level of finesse and vibrancy off this record and overall incredible technical talent combined with beauty of unfeasible magnitudes. Only a small number of bands can truly strike such a balance, and none with the aura of uniqueness that Nodachi presents. They are unabashed in their odd choice of instruments, which creates this weird, mystical vibe through the whole record. This is the only album i've heard out there like it.

Still nearly as ethereal as the two records prior, and equally rooted in the same "natural" vibe present off his past two records. It's unfortunate that his rap deliveries have been restrained and that he will no longer be creating more blissful hip hop to spread the word of peace, but still these 3 gorgeous albums will live on as Nujabes legacy.

Honestly there are just so many insanely powerful riffs and little shreds that make this have some of the best guitar work in thrash, as well as having an awesome diversity between drum beats. The energy is always there. The only detraction might be Matt Cavalera, however I may also just not be a fan of thrash vocals as a whole.
Serpent Column Kathodos
Shade Empire Poetry of the Ill-Minded
This was a fantastic record that nearly meets the level of grandeur and bombast that Omega Arcane had set. It also utilizes experimentation seen off of albums like Zero Nexus, and while it's definitely a ballsy and respectable move to let some fiery sax solos slip in there, they don't exactly mesh well with symphonic metal. I also feel like this shows some pretty big high points and low points, high points being the gorgeous tracks that are among the best in the bands career (Lecter/Welcome and Anti-Life Saviour) and some of there most disappointing (Treasure/In Liquid Dreams). This album would be extremely close to Omega Arcane quality if not for these small kinks.

This is potentially the greatest release I've heard from The Ocean. The abrasive throat- shredding vocals are backed with gorgeous, cinematic soundscapes that are more transportive than ever. The alien closer "Benthic:The Origin Of Our Wishes" is a fantastic example of the mixed abilities this band has, ranging from creating thick mystical fogs to conjuring demonic aliens in your bedroom.

I love how absolutely nonsensical and stupid this band is in its theme. It's just fun as fuck Black metal. Nice riffs, an orgasmic solo near the end (pun intended). If this band thinks they're actually edgy as fuck then they're certainly wrong but this album does shock value really well.

Breaking Benjamin We Are Not Alone
We are not alone is probably a step up from any Breaking Ben album. Its passionate, the riffs are usually pretty powerful and are heavy for radio friendly rock, and to top it off they aren't reliant on studio improvements and are still great live. They are generic and fall flat some times and only seperate themselves from other modern bands a small amount, but they play the generic rock to the best of their abilities.

Cradle of Filth Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay
This could very well be Cradle's best album yet, and if it isn't it sure as hell is close between this and Midian. Dani is as vitalized as I think he has ever been, the instrumentation is ridiculously cohesive, and the guitar solos shred as fierce as they have ever been. This one of those few albums that simply sound like the peak of Cradle's signature sound.

Cryptopsy The Book of Suffering - Tome 1
Basically traditional Cryptopsy. Perhaps not as guttural as None So Vile or Blasphemy Made Flesh, however it has the same rapid fire drumming and catchy riffs as their best works. The Dillinger Escape Plan Miss Machine
This is incredibly destructive as most of this bands releases seem to be. Whizzing guitar work accompanies equally whizzing drum patterns that sound like the repetitious firing of a cannon. Then, there are the vocals. These could honestly be my favorite hardcore/metalcore/mathcore vocals. They have an unparalleled crunch but can offer some respite when needed, which only enhances the power of the aforementioned harsh vocals. Seriously, get fucking pumped, listen to this, and then go out and stab a man. rOk maybe don't do that last part.
The Dillinger Escape Plan Ire Works
This is a damn good album that continues on the signature sound of Dillinger Escape Plan (which I don't think needs much explaining). There does however seem to be a bigger incorporation of different genres and band influences which are very hit or miss. "Milk Lizard" is zany and off-the-wall with its sort of McLusky impression and is overall fun as hell, but then there are duds like Black Bubblegum that come across as slightly-grating pop metal. There is also a lack of any truly signature moments, which makes this record sound like Dillinger with less steam. That is still quiet good, but it's definitely nice to know that the band pushed their capabilities off their next record instead of making another "Ire Works".

The first track is really promising and treads slightly different ground for Wolves. Let's hope this kicks the past two albums in the dirt because Wolves has definitely been in a bit of a slump. rEdit-this was a beauty. It doesn't quite touch albums like Diadem or Two Hunters, but the creative ambition has been revived and Wolves does a perfect job balancing soft, soothing ambience with good ole' icy cold black metal. I'd also like to mention that the drumming is probably the most vigorous and "busy" that WITTR has ever done.

As far as I can tell this is their weakest album although i've yet to hear their debut. It's pretty solid overall but they do dip into rather generic melodic death/doom metal at points, and it doesn't help that this albums rather monolithic in length (almost 70 minutes). However it has some amazing moments that bring it from a weak 3/5 to a strong 3.5-4rEdit- izza 3.

While I enjoy the hazy, walking-through-a-Seattle-downpour vibe of this record, I can't help but feel there is a lack on anything interesting actually going on here. I'm not gonna lie there aren't too many standout moments and the harsh vocals sound like someone layered the dying screech of a weasel 15 times but fuck me if the there aren't a few hella catchy hooks
Blasphemy Fallen Angel of Doom
Blind Guardian Nightfall in Middle-Earth
Born of Osiris Tomorrow We Die Alive
I dont find myself hating this album like a lot of critics seem to. I actually think there is some pretty stellar synthesizer and the archepeggios are really great even if they are slightly overused. Although beyond that its can be summed up as a big djent cliche in all honesty.

Darkspace Dark Space III
When the fuzz clears way some truly stellar shit shines through here, ESPECIALLY near the end with the monolithic riffs backed with very dissonant guitars and synths in the back. Alongside this, the shrieks are among some of the most powerful in black metal. Unfortunately this record came across as jumbled noise at certain points and was kind of bland during these parts. This wouldn't have been as bad if this wasn't a monster of an album at nearly 80 minutes. 2nd half is like a 4/5, first half is like a 2.5/5

Faith No More Sol Invictus

Holy fuck this wasn't terrible. In fact it honestly had some pretty solid catchy pop punk hooks. The lyrics are abysmal sometimes but it's definitely a step up for this band.

I would be lying if I said the guitar work wasn't pretty impressive but these song titles and lyrics are so cringy, and the vocals are a bit grating. The album is pretty forgettable although Periphery's cheesy gaming theme is interesting enough.

Benighted Benighted
There's some damn good solos and I think Benighted pull of a really interesting blend of brutal death and black metal here, but they really do a poor job of implementing samples in a way that enhance the music. Also the mixing on the drums suck but i'll give them slack being their first album.

Bring Me the Horizon That's the Spirit
This album was far too complacent. It's good that on Sempiternal BMTH finally found a sound they could sit comfortably in, but this almost as insipid as some Nickelback albums. The risk is so minimal it's like this was put out just so they could get a quick cash grab. It's just so absolutely plain, like Ollie Syke doesn't even have a distinguishing voice anymore, atop that the lyrics are angsty even by BMTH standards. Throne is good because of some really cathartic drumming near the end, but that's it. 90 percent of this could've been scrapped because it leaves no impression at all.
Bullet for My Valentine Temper Temper
Chief Keef Thot Breaker
I wanted to like this, I really did, but the
well- crafted beats were just not enough to
keep this afloat for me. Chief's rap style
does nothing to interest me, and most of the
lyrics just don't stand out to me. Honestly
this felt like a chore to get through in spite
of a few solid tracks.
Edit- I'm sorry, next time I will force myself
to enjoy this since this apparently upset a
certain someone so much.
Coldplay X&Y
Cradle of Filth Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa
This isn't necessarily terrible, the drumming is rampant and there's some good riffs, and Dani is fairly average, but fuck it's just tedious, it really did not need an hour and a half run time. Also, while I normally enjoy Dani's pterodactyl shrieks, sometimes he does this awkward almost guitar wail of sorts? Yeah, it's not good. Had the album been 45-50 minutes it would have been relatively good, but that really is the killing factor.
