| It might seem like a complete odd move for a punk band to write songs for a theater piece (Clockwork Orange) and making a semi-concept album based on them. Easily, this could have been a career killing move, but strangely enough, it worked on an artistic and commercial Level. "Horrorschau" was the Hosen's breakthrough album, which remains one of their best. Ditching any effort to make party-ready tunes, it gives "Horrorschau" a unique cohesiveness and its bleak and claustrophobic atmosphere never gets interrupted the way it happened on many other Hosen records. Singer Campino did an awesome Job telling the Clockwork Orange-Plot, but also the tracks, that are not based on this story, fit the overall-vibe remarkably well. Also, the band has regained their musical bite after the too polished "Damenwahl", while the musicianship has grown a lot tighter and better than on their rough beginnings. "Horrorschau" is still clearly influenced by melodic late 70's punk, but the band is not afraid to cross over into heavy rock territory, which fits the dark themes really well. This is a Stone Cold classic, any rock Music fan should check out! |

| The Hosen reched their creative peak on this 1996 masterpiece, which combines the best of the bands many faces, without becoming incoherent: It has power and even crosses over into noisy territory sometimes, yet it is accessible as you would expect, and also more experimental. More than ever, you get the feeling, the bandmembers just do what they want and not what their audience wants, there are remarkably less blatant attempts at singalong melodies, but the biting songwriting makes more than up for it. This time, the lyrical focus lies on religion, but besides that, the variety of topics (child abuse, psychosis, ecstasy, loss of love , hippie-mocking and so on) and the way they are treated is just astonishing. Campino has never written more intelligent, sensible and thoughtfull lyrics than here. Although the Album contains 18 tracks, there are almost no fillers. This is the sound of a band that could do no wrong at this time. |

| Arriving out of nowhere in 1983, a time when Punk was barely existent anymore in Germany, it is safe to say that these 5 weirdos from Düsseldorf revitalized it. Rough and clumsy, but surprisingly detailed and energetic and far less one-dimesional and left-wing than most of their peers, the debut might not be their best Album, but definitly their most influental and least forced one. Their biggest Trademark, their accesible singalong melodies and diverse lyrical content (reaching from clever social commentary to dumb drinking songs) are already there, even if it's far from being as ambitious as their later work. Even for non-Germans, this one might be right for you, if you are into unpolished Punkrock. |

| After hitting No. 1 with the good but messy "Auf dem Kreuzzug ins Glück", Die Toten Hosen returned with a much darker and sarcastic record, that is mostly designed as a commentary on the zeitgeist of Germany in the 90's. Topics vary from consumerism, to protest songs against the nazi riots of these days, drugs, STDs, Alienation, to love . There are some vague experiments here and there, but besides the sometimes hard hitting cynicism, this is a quintessential Hosen Album, still rooted in Punkrock, performed by a matured band, and the lack of usual missteps makes it one of their best, Right behind "Opium" and "Horrorschau". |

It's enjoyable for everyone, who liked their debut, even if the band sometimes tries more than they are actually capable of. |

| Making a double Album might be the most risky thing a band can do, mostly it ends up being overproduced (Hi, G'n'R!), overambitious (Hi, Pink Floyd!) or full of fillers (Hi, everyone else!). The good thing about "Kreuzzug ins Glück" is that it doesn't pretend to be anything else than an incoherent mess. It's a collection of a lot of strong new songs, covers, remixes and completely weird oddities. Ironically it comprehends the bands diversity better than any other album of the Hosen's discography. It may lack the focus of their strongest records, nevertheless, it's a lot of fun. |
