Freur Doot-Doot |
Electronic synth-pop of excellent level that highlights a refined and totally original style: the single "Doot Doot" is irresistible, one of those great melodies of the 80s that never sound out of fashion. And this is true for all the 10 tracks of the album: each of them is a masterpiece. Other famous bands of that period now sound dated, but "Doot-Doot" will remain in the heart of those who loved it at first listen, indeed hearing it is always a new discovery. Such a work can hardly be replicated, and in fact the second album was a flop that led to the dissolution of the band, reformed later as the techno group named Underworld. |

One of the most underrated records in rock history. It is usually considered a not too successful experiment in finding the group's personal style. In my opinion it is their masterpiece, while the subsequent production is a mannerist, energetic medium-good level country-rock, but nothing more. The irresistibly enthralling acoustic sound of this album (which will later be found only in the song "Listen to the Music", not surprisingly become their big number) is instead absolutely original and unrepeatable. |

Exquisitely French but at the same time multi-ethnic music, with gypsy and North African influences that add a spicy flavor to the Parisian atmosphere: there is the "Amelie" style accordion, but also a ska wind section, acoustic guitars and bongos. The end result is cheerful and casual, almost like street artists. Punk-gypsy grit, fun and "joie de vivre" are the main ingredients of this album. Remarkable the single "Zobi la Mouche". |

Matt Bianco Whose Side Are You On |
The easiest side of the 80s sophisti-pop in a disc that amuses with class using bossa nova, cha-cha-cha and other Latin rhythms. The 10 tracks of the LP are all catchy (they include 4 singles + the title-track not issued as a single but broadcasted a lot on the radio) and make it truly memorable. Also fundamental the skill and charisma of Basia (a Polish singer with an unpronounceable surname) who unfortunately, on the wave of this extraordinary exploit, decided to leave the group to begin a solo career. |
