A Perfect Circle Thirteenth Step
A Perfect Circle Mer de Noms
The ultimate debut album by the ultimate supergroup. This is the kind of album that, after one listen, you are hooked. With some of the darkest guitar sounds ever put to tape on a rock record, this album smashes genre's to pieces. There are only two weak links (renholder & thomas) but the rest is gold. Maynard is at his chilling best throughout and Billy Howerdel announces himself on the modern music scene as a fantastic song writer. This is as good as it gets.
Alcest Souvenirs D'Un Autre Monde
I will start by saying that this album is, without question, the best album of 2007... and perhaps the best release of the past 3 years. An album this complete has not been heard since The Arcade Fire dropped "Funeral" a couple of years back. The sounds are lush and the guitars are masterfully layered to create enchanting and blissful soundscapes. There is no stand out track/s to speak of here, as they all melt and intertwine gorgeously.
The bar has been set very high here, I hope that someone else can come close... but I wont be holding my breathe.
Arcade Fire Funeral
One of the most complete albums that you will ever hear. From the start to the finish it just flows and links together, even though there are some quite diverse changes in some of the songs. An album for music lovers.

This is the perfect punk/hardcore album. The energy that this album unleashes is quite surreal. Great musicianship coupled with Cedric's ability to write amazingly abstract lyrics is what basically sets this apart from anything else in this genre. This album will be the album that all other hardcore album's are compared to and measured against. Un-missable!

In my opinion this was the best album to come out in 2005. Full of heart felt singalong pop/rock this is one of the most honest albums you will ever hear. Essential.

A beautifully honest album, that see's Buck 65 at his very best. He doesnt stray to far from his signature sound and lyrics are as raw and meaningful as ever. Check out "kennedy killed the hat", "devil's eyes" & "corugated tin facade", they will destroy you!

Sufjan Stevens Illinois
The crazy little fella with the crazy musical plan is back and once agin Sufjan does not disappoint. A heartfelt and deeply intelligent album is what sufjan dishes up on the second leg of his 50 states project. Sufjan shows his amazing multi instrumental skills here and when combined with his ability to pen clever lyrics and write stunning arrangements it is easy to see why he is the best young singer songwriter in the world today. He uses just about every sound imaginable on this album to create a sense of optimism that has not been surpassed. Magnificent songwriting makes this an instant indie/folk classic.

This is my favourite album!, from the mind boggiling art work through to the bands epic sounds this album kicks ass! From the opening sounds of "the grudge" you know you are gonna be in for an epic ride here, with huge drums and subtle time changes this songs sets the tone for an unbelievable ride. A more cohesive album has never been made, with all the songs flowing into one another to make 1 huge sound. Danny Carey proves why he is the best rock drummer in the world here and Justin Chancellor sets the bar for bassists the world over with his guitar like Wal sound. Maynard is at his most dangerous best here.
This album took a least 10 listens for me to get into it and still today, 6 years later, Iam still discovering something new when I listen to it.
Take your time and get into it because it will be the rewarding musical experience of your life!

Open the gateways back to 1986! This is the best soundtrack ever made! from the cheesy lyrics to the manic keyboard solo's and power drumming this cd sums up my childhood. Anybody who has seen the classic animated movie will know what Im talking about.

An independant musician finally releases an album that he has spent 2 and a half years making, in his bedroom no less, and it's release puts him on the map.
This is a great album full of samples and crazy sounds and loops, a modern day masterpiece. It has a whole mish mash of genre's here with electro dance (the only way), funk (learnalilgivinalovin) and even eastern influences in the fantastic track, "Hearts a Mess", which in my opinion was the best single release of 2006.
By the way it is pronounced "gort-e-yay".

This is the perfect follow up to the ground breaking, genre smashing album "three". Butler goes a little more mainstream here hit single "zebra" but he never strays far from his signature sound. On this album he has emplyed the services of drummer Michael Barker and bassist Shannon Birchall and they lock together to form one of the hardest grooving rhythm sections in the root music scene. Great album.

This one of the most eclectic albums that I have in my collection but surprisingly, it is also one of the most cohesive. Fantastic tracks through out with widely ranging sounds. From opener "the world at large" with it's horn parts to the pop sensibilities of lead single "float on", the soaring guitars of "ocean breathes salty", the banjo twanger of "bukowski" and the disco laden "the view", it seems that the myriad of sounds here are what defines this album. A modern day classic.

This band is an undiscovered gem for the most part, having gained little to no spotlight in the mainstream. All of the current crop of emo/punk bands owe a hell of a lot to these guys as they pioneered the emo sound. Great album.

Wow, what an album from the prolific but twisted mind of the resident crazy, Anton Newcombe. This, for me anyway, is the essential Brian Jonestown release. Anybody who is familiar with the doco "DIG" will know most of these tracks as they form a big part of the films soundtrack. There are all the quirks & psycadelia that you would expect from these 60's revivalists. Stunning & timeless album.

This one of the craziest albums released in 2006, the album is basically based around the unbelievable vocal talents of camille, almost reminiscent of bjork. There are uptempo jazzy numbers, slow ballads and funky rhythms that you cant help but get up and dance to. Some of the most subtle yet unforgettable bass lines you are ever likely to hear. Lead single, Ta Douleur was one of the best singles released in 2006. This is one hell of a ride.

There is alot of nonsense being posted about this album, first let me say I dont like fred durst, but this album has glimpses of the best work that limp bizkit has ever produced. Songs such as "down another day", "almost over", "build a bridge", "let me down", "lonely world" and "creamer" are as catchy tracks as you are ever gonna hear. This album is not a work of genius but it is certainly not a piece of shit!

Back in 1997 these guys were pop royalty & in my opinion rightfully so. This is a fantastic pop album, as good as it gets, for me anyway. There is hardly a weak track here, the stand out being the first single, "I want you". This group disbanded after only a couple of albums, again in my opinion a good thing (meaning I never had enough time to turn on them!). Summing up this is an awesome pop album by Australia's best pop exports.

This is one crazy, twisted and eclectic mix of an album. It contains beats, loops and contorted rhythms and combines with strange vocal parts. It is still very listenable. People will either love or hate this album, which is a great thing, for me it is a definite thumbs up.

This album is definitly a step in the right direction for these guys. The first track I heard from this album was "keep your hands off my girl" as it was the first single and I hated it at first, but over time the song grew on me, just as the album has. Features a far more industrial & distorted sound than previous releases, I think this is worth checking out.

This album, as the title suggests, is basically "The Hard Road" meets the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. The added orchestration is interesting at times but doesnt add a great deal to the original recordings. I wish the hoods had decided to do away with the DJ on this record, as his samples and scratchings actually detracts from everything else that is happening. My one hope for these guys is that they can evolve into a hip/hop live band because I believe they could really push what they do too the next level. Back to the album, the standout tracks are "recapturing the vibe", "the hard road" & "city of light". There are a few average tracks on here also, but I didn't like the original's either, so I guess you can't polish a turd.

This album is full of classic hard rock from the early 1990's, I bought this cd only for dead souls by nine inch nails (originally done by joy division) and burn by the cure but there is some other good gear on here aswell.
Soundtrack (Film) Transformers
This soundtrack certainly isnt as badass as the soundtrack from the original Transformers movie, from 1986, but that doesnt mean it isnt worth a listen. Linkin Park's "What I've Done" seems to suite the film well, Smashing Pumpkins "Doomsday Clock" is a classic rocker and The Used's "Pretty Handsome Awkward" does enough dirty rocking to be reminiscent of Motley Crue. The biggest disappointment on here was Mutemath's cover of the "Transformers Theme", which is sickly at very best. For me the highlight is The Goo Goo Dolls track "Before It's Too Late (Sam & Mikaela's theme)", which is beautiful piece of pop rock and stands to be one of my favourite tracks of 2007. Definitly worth a listen.

On first listen of this album I must say that I was very disappointed, especially when comparing it to hot fuss but now, after many more listens, I see that this is a far more complete and cohesive album than hot fuss, sure there are no catchy hits on here but that doesnt mean that sam's town is a bad album, if anything it means that all of the material here needs to be more consistent.

Hot Fuss - great catchy pop songs, but second half of album drags considerably.

Im very unhappy to report that this one unfortunate album release. What where Maynard and the gang thinking they were going to accomplish with this album? The first blot on A perfect circle's career but it is not without its high points. "Passive" is a great song and would stand out on album while "imagine" and "what's going on" are the standout covers here. This album is really only for the older fans as Iam afraid it won't attract any new ones.

When The Editors debut album, "The Back Room", dropped in 2005, I, like a lot of other people, thought that they were a band with a lot of talent and the potential to do do some great things, "The Back Room" was a solid debut, not stunning, with enough good tracks to keep you occupied and enough to lead you suspect big things from their second release, but sadly, "An End Has A Start" doesn't deliver. It might aswell be called The Back Room Part 2, as the boys have basically picked up where they left off, the only problem is that the catchiness of the debut album isn't here and you tend to get the feeling that you have heard this all a hundred times before, but unfortunately it has been done a hundred times better.

I found this album a major disappointment after falling in love with make yourself and the untouchable morning view, this record just seemed to have to much filler. Apart from the first single Anna Molly and Dig there is very little on this album to get excited about.

This is an average album at best, a typical mish mash of styles on here, it is unfortunate that 311 pull none of them off with any distinction. 2 worthwhile tracks (champagne, amber) but the rest is filler.

I got hold of this album after seeing it's popularity in this here site and I thought that the 400 odd sputnikers who voted couldnt all be wrong but after giving this a listen I must say that you all are wrong. This album is plain and quite simply boring, musically the band seem to be tight enough but they lack a certain something, the acoustic parts seem out of place whenever they are used and the bass seems far to low in the mix. Vocally I couldnt stand the performance of their singer (I dont even know his name), he is either using a soft, calm voice that I could barely hear or shouting like most other no talent death metal "vocalists". I was thoroughly annoyed by this album and very disappointed as I expected much better.

Another meek album by the "nickelback" of prog, I wish I could say that I was disappointed by this album but Im not surprised by how drab it really is. The acoustic guitar parts are as tedious as ever as are the whiny vocals. The only moment of light on this album is track #3 "anesthetize", which promises greatness by still falls short. I expect this album will finish high in "best of" charts voted for by my fellow sputnikers but it fails on every level for me.

Sufjan's only experimental electronic album & the worst album in his catalogue. I was unaware that this was an electronic album so you can imagine the shock I got when I bought this and put it on expecting to hear his folk/indie stylings but instead got this electronic twanger. This takes a hell of a lot of effort to get into, which isn't usually a problem, but in this case there is no reward for all of your hard work. Sufjan should have kept this album under lock and key.

This album is one of the hardest albums to listen to that I have ever heard, I'm all for listening to new music and expanding musical horizons and tastes but this is the most annoying and pretentious album I have evr heard.
Its seems to be arty for the sake of being arty and this guys voice is terrible!, he sounds to me to have the same voice that the characters from south park have when they are taking the piss and putting together a montage.
No album should take this much effort to get into, I wont be spinning this one for quite a while!

This is one band who had hype that I just could not understand, maybe they hit it big because of the vampire/goth gimmick, who knows, but for me the tunes dont stack up. Iam not the worlds biggest thrash/black/death metal fan but this album is very un accesable. This is a total chore to sit and listen to, and let me say that is not a good thing. Save your money or invest it elsewhere, I wish I had.

This album ranks right up there as one of the worst I have ever heard. I deeply regret parting with my $30. This is the biggest load of pretentious, whining and gut-wrenching ballads going around, absolute pop radio fodder.
