One of the first albums to truly matter in 2012. Nothing else has left such an impact and
nothing else probably will. This album is a delicious bowl of several elements that I simply
adore in music and because of that, this album sits as probably my favourite Swans album to
date and in my top albums of all time. Michael Gira, you crazy sunnavabitch, don't ever slow
down.

Consistent, Grizzly Bear are not. Like usual, there are the highlights then there is the
drag. Theoretically, these guys blow me away but the songwriting itself does little to
stimulate. 3.5/5

EDIT: oh shit 4.5/5
Immolation Close to a World Below
This is easily the most "flawless" death metal record out there. The fiery riffs that retain
the instability that characterizes an open flame; the destructive drumming that pummels you
further into submission; the potent molten production the emphasizes every point this album
tries to make; and the vocals that sound like they come straight out of the pit, distorted
through the fires of hell. It's all so damn fitting and it makes this one of the most
exhilarating and cohesive death metal experiences ever. Other "classic" death metal records
have moments that let you come down (or rise up, rather) as they cannot manage the intensity
for the full duration of the album. Close to the World Below, however, continues to rape
you, your family, your dog, possibly your cats, and every significant other and child you
are to ever have for a full 42 minutes...and you'll probably enjoy it.

John Darnielle, you've done it again! The music is so rich and varied, thanks to the great production and the decision to write as a full band this time around. Right now, I'd say this is their/his best since The Sunset Tree (in terms of being well-rounded all throughout). Too good.

A thoroughly impressive black metal record in 2012? Wot!? But all in deservedness, this is rthe best "metal" album that could ever come out of 2012...so far. Ingenious songwriting, an rengulfing atmosphere , folk instrumentation that is the complete opposite of tacked ron....etc. There is so much I could praise about this boy. It's not one to miss.

A fantastic EP. When the band were straight sludge, they went HARD. Not much in the metal

this album has farts and lots of farts the farts are probably the best part they are pretty funny and add to the overall song and sometimes all it takes is the right fart in the right place and this festival of farts is probably a really good example of that. A lot of fun farts to be had to this fartin' good album! I wish I could give this album a fart out of 5 but unfortunately I cannot so here is a 3.5

Fun and enjoyable record but my only two problems lie with the lack of a decent amount of memorability and the fact that this is pretty much one-sided in terms of emotional and musical presentation. But I guess since I'm no hardcore aficionado, I am not one to prefer a one-topping pizza. Although, this is better than most (if not all) hardcore albums that I've heard this year. The best song is First, where they masturbate to Ennio Morricone for a good portion of the song. Speak is kind of cringe-worthy. Tuff guy music/5

I was really hoping to like this...but this is like water. It's tasteless, doesn't stick, not very viscous at all (streamlined beyond memorability), and all interesting ideas that do exist are diluted and ineffective. Although, it has its moments and I can still find enjoyment in this aqueous attempt at a significant album.

Rush Clockwork Angels
I really enjoyed the shit out of this when it first dropped. I was never a Rush fan, but this impressed me. Originally, I would have had this album sit at ALMOST a 4.5, but as time continued its natural progression along with more follow-up listens to this supposed masterpiece, the thing grew tired and I soon was left with the feeling I get from most generic pieces of modern rock that are hailed as magna opera or modest masterpieces...dry and bored. I will probably admit that it was the hype that sucked me into convincing myself that I initially thought this was worth my top 5 of the year, but oh man, I sure was a silly cunt. I don't even like this band! Still a good/fun album tho, despite its lack of depth or innovation, so it gets a nice and solid 3 (relax, fanboys). It's a shiny modern hard rock record (not prog) that is worth a couple of spins and might be decent for a company picnic or something.
