Pale Saints In Ribbons
Pale Saints is the forgotten band of the shoegaze genre, and this is their best album. They use subtle arrangements and elusive melodies that gets you on a trip, floating, like only shoegaze can do. But what I really like with this band is that they never fall into a kind of "shoegaze cliche" of silly dreampop songs. Ian Masters' voice is angelic and unique, following weird melodies and unpredictable changes. The overall effect is often on the edge between the comfort of the unreal and the harshness of reality. There is 3 songs with the female voice of another Shoegaze band: Lush, but the best tracks are definitly those with Masters leading the ship to unknown places, especially: "Shell", "Hunted", "Hair Shoes" and "Neverending Night", all these song are among the best in Shoegaze history, as well as the album.

Ride Nowhere
Too bad they fell at times into the "silly shoegaze" trap (Polar Bear) because overall this album is really good, different from My Bloody Valentine, as good as Pale Saints first 2 albums. The drums are really great, and it is noteworthy that drums can be great on a shoegaze album. Not for everyone, if you don't like the silly love song touch in shoegaze, avoid this Ride as it would get you Nowhere (yeah i know...).
Edit: I changed my mind about this one, it's actually great, don't get fooled by the first 4 tracks, the next 4 (from Deams burn down to Vapour Trail) are really awesome.

Blut Aus Nord MoRT
A black metal band conveying a very dark feeling in another way, it is pretty interesting at first sight. The first listenings may be tough, most listenners will be lost in this maze. But then, when you start to find your way in this labyrinth of darkness it turns into a very enjoyable journey. The only complain I could make here is that it pretty much always the same recipe for the same feeling conveyed, with the exeption of Track 5 that features a break and a bright climatic passage. It would have been a good idea to use the formula of this track more often on the album. Unique and smart album.

"I love black metal, I had no problem with the vocals here and still I'm not a fan of this album. The production is great, there are some exellent riffs but I did not feel any maturity behind it. The large majority of the songs follow the same stucture with clear verses & chorus, everything is made to be catchy, the riffs can sound a bit too similar sometime, there is a pretty weak replay value overall and the lyrics (since it is comprehensible here) are very cliche" -- That's what I wrote two years ago, I changed my mind a bit as I think it's fun now, all i said is still true but I listen to the album quite often, it's pretty unique, I'd call it arid black metal with this voice not able to scream, feels dry and the buzzing guitars. Fun and unique, that has to be more than 3/5.

If they cut out 3 or 4 weak tracks, quite similar and repetitive, they could end up with a brilliant album. Highlights: "Pinky's dream", "Good Day", "These are my friends" and "She rise up". Listen to those 4 songs and you would have a pretty good idea of the overall style and sound of this album.

Sonic Youth Experimental Jet Set, Trash, and No Star
One of the underrated SY albums. Sometimes I feel like SY fans need to have an album they can destroy just to make the point they are fans but still can rate properly. Most of the time it will be this one or NYC Ghosts and Flowers that will be broken. Nevermind if I sound like a fanboy, there is no bad SY album (maybe among the EP though). There are bad songs, several on this album, all right. Experimental Jet set... is an album on which you feel SY had plenty of ideas, and they didn't want to end up lenghthy, how many songs starts right off with the voice here? A lot of creativity here, great lyrics, voice, and still the famous dual guitars that seems to play random melodies taken separately, and together form beatiful harmonies. Favorite tracks: Bull in the Heather, Self Obsessed & Sexxee and Tokyo Eye.

Too much "i love you but you don't" "if you loved me" and other soppy lyrics, which is a shame because Ray does have genius, the first track is a great example of that, but you won't hear it that often on this record.

I don't understand how this album is such a classic for so many. I mean, there are a lot of reasons why it's not crap such as "versatile", "not 1 bad song", "changed the face of punk"... but to me this is not enough, i just need some killer tracks, intensity and emotion. Here it's fun, pop, sweetie but that's it. I gave it time, i bought it in a special edition, i'd really like to tell it's a classic that can deliver the music... to me it's just a classic build up by the fans.

Way too repetitive, most of the time a song here is closer to being a loop of 5sec with very few variations. Too bad because the vocals are really good.

Ok, I was interested by the aboriginal side of things here, but the music is very much western like folk, and the lyrics of the track in english are silly and deals with "god", so overall I ended up with the feeling that this whole aboriginal thing is only marketing. I will not give high rating just based on the fact that he sings in a exotic language. His voice is great, but the songs are very random and very similar. You can find tons of folk/songwriting music way better than this, and if you want some aborginal music, seek elsewhere, I would rather call this one "brainwhashed aboriginal music", and it makes me sad. Big disapointment and absolutely not what I was searching for.

My first Unsane album, I knew i would see them live so I gave this one a shot. Pretty dull, though live it was cool, I didn't like the lyrics a lot also and some songs were a bit too obvious and repetitive.

No direction, no substance, horrible clean female vocals, a display of technique without ability to find strong riffs or spots, in fact they are changing spots every 10seconds. I can be a fan of this kind of music, but clearly not of this band with this album.
Urge Overkill Exit The Dragon
If you thought, as I did, that "Girl you'll be a woman soon" is a great song and a good enough reason to listen to this album, let me warn you that all the other songs here have nothing to do with it. They are your basic grunge songs without anything special that would make them stand out of the numerous bands of the early 90's.
Virus (NO) The Black Flux
I have no problem with disonant melodies but here I don't feel anything behind it, any intensity nor sincerity. It was a big disapointment to me. A very dull album.
