Gene - the rater of either 3.0 or 4.0,

Band of Horses Everything All the Time
I am not the greatest fan of song-writing where persistent sweet harmonies tune out the melodies or a structure one could follow. Most of this album is build-up whose payoff is the same exact thing but louder and more overproduced. I suppose in that this album stands over all other Band of Horses' albums that at least it came before the others, so the formula was not yet overplayed.

Band of Horses Why Are You OK
it ain't easy, but it's mostly a lot of self-care and a good caring community of friends. and that is why i am okay.

Dead Boys Young Loud and Snotty
Early punk through the prism of the modern eye tends to lose a lot of its punch or timeliness, but somehow not Dead Boys. They are as raw as they ever have been, with lyrics ranging from bluntly creepy for the sake of provocation, to subtly silly for the sake of comedy.

DSR Lines The Encyclopedia of Civilzations, Vol. 2: Atlantis
This one feels a little more in tune with its assumed theme than the previous instalment of 'Encyclopedia of Civilizations', seeing as Atlantis has become a mainstay of dreamlike scenarios, this uberliquid dreamy soundscape fits just right.

Jonas Reinhardt / Jurgen Muller The Encyclopedia of Civilizations, Vol. 1: Egypt
The Reinhardt/Muller duo have been tasked by Abstrakce Records to make an electronic album based around ancient Egypt. What they came through with certainly is electronic, but I for the most part struggle to hear the Egypt in it. Sadly, not a lot of promotional material online helps enlighten me on how it relates musically. Despite that, 'Egypt' is a great and quirky bloopy modular ambient album with plenty moments that just make you all fuzzy and cozy.

Blue October Spinning the Truth Around (Part II)
An album that strikes for some faux nostalgia, yet even at that shoots in all the wrong directions. There are some spectacularly ill-inspired moments and choices, from the bizarre pop-rap intersections to the weird arena production, to all the bland and flavourless instrumentals that they tried to cover with the awkward mix. Strange decisionmaking across the whole album with some tepid song-writing to top it all off. The only thing that is keeping me from absolutely hating this thing (more than I already do) is the intent and the occasional lyrics. But heck even in that, even with a heavy theme or personal issue to explore, they manage to bri

Rachel Chinouriri What A Devastating Turn of Event
Sadly, even if her mighty pop fusion into indie rock is often successful and some of the songs are indeed great, the first single off the album released 2 whole years prior (!), "All I Ever Asked", somehow remained the highest high on this. Somehow it all drags on a bit, varies not that much, despite the stylistic shifts and twists at every turn, and her vocals turn out not to carry well over a longer runtime.
