A bit past due, but here's my favourite albums from 2012
1BADBADNOTGOOD
BBNG2

This is one of my favourite bands, and while this album received some mixed reviews,
it is my favourite of the year. While it's pretty 50/50 split on original songs and cover
songs, it's solid all the way through. These guys are doing some fun stuff with jazz
and it's great to see them blow up this year.
2Father John Misty
Fear Fun

I bought this album solely on the album artwork and was pleasantly surprised. The
story telling in this album is great. It also gives enough of a Fleet Foxes vibe to make
me happy, while letting him do his own thing and make his own persona.
3Kendrick Lamar
good kid, m.A.A.d city

This album was on everyone's top album list this year, and mine is no exception. If
you want a better reason this album is up here, there are better written reviews than I
could ever write, go read them.
4Purity Ring
Shrines

This band kinda snuck up on me. I kept hearing their name everywhere but never
came them a listen. Finally, a podcast I was listening to played "Crawlersout" and I
was like, "Wow! This is incredible!" And I went out and bought it. No regrets.
5The Oh Hellos
Through The Deep, Dark Valley

Best album I got for free in 2012. They're a fun folk band and in a year full of concept
albums, this one (and Kendrick's, of course) take the cake. It's still free, and you
should definitely snag it.
6 P.O.S
We Don't Even Live Here

Midwest pride. Solid album. Recorded here in Eau Claire. I only really started getting
into rap and hip-hop this year, and it's partially due to this album. It probably should
be a bit lower on this list, but I'm Midwest biased, so I'll just leave it here.
7Walk The Moon
Walk The Moon

I've kind of got sick of indie pop, like most people. It's pretty formulaic and unoriginal,
for the most part. This album is no exception, except that it is. It follows the formula,
but does it will. I enjoyed this album, and I'll probably catch a lot of crap for it, but it
was a fun album and still is.
8Alt-j
An Awesome Wave

This is just some fun experimental music and is so original. Not everyone's cup of tea,
but I love 'em.
9Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
The Heist

No matter where you stand, this was a solid album for pop rap. It's cool to see an
independent rapper take home so many Grammy's in 2013 and make such a political
points. While his singles have gotten played to death on the radio, that doesn't deter
from the album as a whole. Even if you don't live him, Macklemore made quite a wave
in the music industry this year.
10Now, Now
Threads

For girl-rock, it's pretty submissive. I think the most repeated line in this album is "If
you want to". I'm not really a fan of that, but it's just to good of an album.
11Alabama Shakes
Boys & Girls

I was so excited for this album, but played the E.P. they released prior, which lead to
my disappointment. The E.P. was half the album, so not a lot of new stuff. It's good, I
just got myself to excited.
12 Of Monsters & Men
My Head Is An Animal

A lot of people don't like them, and throwing them on this list probably discredits me a
whole heck of a lot. Whatever, I enjoyed it, it was fun. Nothing life changing (that's
why it's at the bottom) and they are better albums out there (Japandroids and the xx's
album this year probably should have been on this list), but it was one of my most
played albums this year. So, yeah.
