30 Favorite Artists Of The Decade
My music taste has greatly changed over the past ryear. I'd like to rcommemorate the decade of 2000-2009 with this list. |
1 | Coldplay
A great band before Viva la Vida. That album put them at the top, though. |
2 | Hurt
An above-average mainstream rock band in my opinion before the release
of Goodbye to the Machine. I've listened to that album probably more than
any other in the past year. |
3 | U2
The 00s weren't U2's best decade but I'm a die-hard fan and they released
three solid albums. |
4 | Snow Patrol
Behind Goodbye to the Machine, Eyes Open has to be my second-most
listened to album of the past year. A great soft rock/alternative band. |
5 | John Mayer
When I am attempting to say something romantic to my girlfriend, I often
steal a line or two from this man. He also happens to be a great guitarist. |
6 | Our Lady Peace
Happiness was a great album. And yes, I loved Gravity, too, even if it was
too "mainstream." |
7 | Alter Bridge
Easily the best straightforward hard rock band of the decade. |
8 | Death Cab For Cutie
A terrific indie group with top-notch lyrics. |
9 | Staind
I haven't been into Staind as much lately, but they are the group that got
me into rock in the first place. "So Far Away" and "It's Been Awhile" remain
two of my favorite songs. |
10 | Franz Ferdinand
Ever since I heard "Take Me Out," I was sold. Three excellent albums in the
decade. |
11 | Kings of Leon
Didn't know about them until Only By the Night but I later discovered they
had several great albums before hitting it big. |
12 | Mat Kearney
I'm a sucker for singer-songwriters, and he's one of the best. |
13 | The Shins
One of the better indie artists... imo. |
14 | Maroon 5
You have to admit this stuff is horribly catchy. Their songs stay with me for
days. |
15 | Arctic Monkeys
Some great modern rock and roll right here. |
16 | Shinedown
I still think The Sound of Madness was the best mainstream rock album of
the decade. |
17 | The Killers
I have no idea what genre they are, but Hot Fuss was awesome, and their
other albums weren't too bad either. |
18 | Live
I realize they were mostly unknown throughout the decade, but Live, like
U2, is one of my personal favorites. I liked all of their material from the 00s. |
19 | Arcade Fire
Two absolutely incredible indie albums came from the Arcade Fire in the 00s. |
20 | Breaking Benjamin
Four above average mainstream rock/alt metal albums. |
21 | 3 Doors Down
They've tailed off recently, but come on, those first two albums were great.
We all remember "Kryptonite." |
22 | Howie Day
Like Mat Kearney, one of my favorite singer-songwriters. |
23 | Foo Fighters
I've always enjoyed the Foos, and I think they put out some great material
in the past decade. |
24 | Thrice
Used to hate these guys. Now I really enjoy them. Pretty catchy compared to the
other bands in their genre. |
25 | Train
"Drops of Jupiter"=favorite song.
And Save Me San Francisco was an excellent pop rock album. |
26 | O.A.R.
All Sides wasn't a very good album but I did enjoy "Shattered." Everything
before that album though was excellent. |
27 | Daughtry
I honestly don't know why I like Chris Daughtry... But I do. I own both of his
albums. Guilty pleasure. It must be admitted that Daughtry is better than
most mainstream rock bands (I.E. Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman, Hinder,
etc.) |
28 | Rise Against
They're becoming more mainstream with each album, but that's not
necessarily a bad thing... they're also getting more consistent with each
album. |
29 | Matchbox Twenty/Rob Thomas
I'm combining Matchbox 20 and Rob Thomas's solo work into one since he is
the only real songwriter for M20. Anyways, Thomas is a great songwriter,
that can't be denied. |
30 | Queens of the Stone Age
I'm not a huge fan of stoner rock, per se, but QOTSA has won me over...
None of their albums are excellent but each is solid with a few great songs. |
