With their decelerated decomposition of pop songs from Kiss to Bob Dylan, Fairport
Convention to Scott Walker, Prince to Joy Division or Depeche Mode and so on, Susanna and
the Magical Orchestra could make earlier Low recordings sound like amphetamined country-
punk, but they give each of their covers a brand new, brilliant, personal and peculiarly
moving interpretation. Maybe the best cover album in the pop/rock idiom alongside "People
Are Strange" by Stina Nordenstam and "Kicking Against The Pricks" by Nick Cave and the Bad
Seeds. |
