5.0 classic
Bjork Homogenic
Homogenic? This album's anything but. It's full of love, life, and overwhelming emotional prowess. Homogenic is an unforgettable journey from start to end, and I'd arguably say the second half is as good as the first. 5 Years, Immature, and Alarm Call probably make up the most underrated group of songs in her catalogue. Homogenic is known as one of the best art-pop albums ever made, and I couldn't agree more with its recognition.
Charles Mingus The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Yeah I know ya'll are legends and everything, but Miles Davis and Jon Coltrane can just go home and call it a day. This here is the pinnacle jazz record.
Circle Takes the Square As the Roots Undo
Never has an album captured as much...intrigue as this has, down to the lyrics, the sounds, the screams, the structures, everything. Not one spot exists here where I could say, "This didn't really need to be here". A surefire classic.
Converge Jane Doe
This album is so lovely and friendly; it inspired the name of my future dog, who will surely have the same qualities this record does.
Death Individual Thought Patterns
Individual Thought Patterns is kind of an odd choice for Death's and death metal's best
album, I know. Its core sound is coming straight off the stretch of Human and right
before the massive, epic overhaul in Symbolic, so what could this accomplish that Human
and Symbolic didn't? Other than being boosted by a slicker consistency in songwriting
than their own peer records, Death made Individual Thought Patterns with simply the most
memorable classic death metal riffs, instrumentals, production, and voice out there. This
record is what Death did best and, before a tragic passing ended Death's further output,
they would go on to stack a still-untouched legacy.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor F♯ A♯ ∞
I mean, everyone knows this is a classic, so I don't really have to write this but I will because I'm giving all my 5's a soundoff.
Gospel The Moon Is a Dead World
Flows like a river, Raw as hell, technical and complicated like a galaxy of measures and ideas, and truly original. All that, along with one of the greatest songs to ever be recorded (A Golden Dawn) makes this masterpiece a 5.
Ichiko Aoba Adan no Kaze
I just started listening to this, not expecting much from a December release. What I got
was some of the best pacing I've ever heard, flawless production, and rich themes with
constant variety.

This will likely be my first 10/10 in 5 years. Thank you, Ichiko, for creating a through-
a-through masterpiece.
Jeff Buckley Grace
Jeff Buckley's Grace is probably the greatest individual effort in rock music. Mr. Buckley could pull off just about every vocal style in the rock music textbook with ease and it's truly tragic that the world never got to witness his talent through a lifelong career. He had a knack for creating compelling atmospheres and was a fantastic lyricist. Nearly every track here, even the more underrated ones ("Dream Brother", "Lilac Wine", "Eternal Life"), are classics in their own rights.
Karnivool Sound Awake
Have you ever wanted a progressive rock album where each band member shares attention so absolutely nothing sticks out like a sore thumb? Have you ever wanted a progressive rock album that flows extremely well in every instrument and aspect of its sound? Have you ever wanted a progressive rock album that skillfully walked the fine line between wankery and repetition? This is that album.
Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly is my only 10/10 in the 2010s as of now. A decade-
defining masterpiece, Mr. Lamar (or Duckworth if you'd like) had somehow improved the
already fantastic good kid, m.A.A.d city with exciting new production choices and
beautiful integration of jazz, funk, and soul-influenced instrumentals. The rapping on
TPAB is as good as it can get and the album is a focal point of social unison as it's
lyrics are monumentally impactful and important for the current U.S. political climate.
This album has only increased in relevance as a classic with the passing years and it
will always deserve to do so.

Edit: As of November 9, 2020, I am happy to announce that the "only 10/10 of the 2010's"
part is finally untrue, but that by no means takes away significance from this record.
King Crimson In the Court of the Crimson King
I can't forgive you for not liking a song here. Ok, you may dislike "Moonchild", but the rest of them are illegal to hate. It's the law, so follow it.
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin IV
Neurosis Through Silver in Blood
Not only should this album be regarded as an icon for both sludge metal and post metal, but this is also the best doom metal I've ever heard. Neurosis somehow reshapes all three of those genres into their own style with flawless balance and execution.
Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon
Dark Side of the Moon isn't just an idol for the casual hipster or an icon of a time period glorified for the "epic" rock scene, but its musical conte(n/x)t is pretty close to making what I would consider the perfect record. This album has the best pacing I've ever heard, and every little niche one song has flawlessly compliments the sound of the song before it. Again, this album isn't made to be seen, as many might would believe, but it's created for the ears of the human soul.
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd just does what they do best yet again, though the major benchmark this album sets for me is the album's sense of unity and closeness. Dark Side of the Moon was the technical masterpiece from above while this was as humble and down-to-earth as could be. This is mainly why the title track "Wish You Were Here" is still one of the very best songs to ever be composed, and why this album is one of the best ever recorded.
Porcupine Tree In Absentia
I don't think this album has any "classic" ideas or sounds (they're unique, but that's different), but Steven Wilson's attempt at this album as a concept is done with perfection. It's the bridge of what was to come of Porcupine Tree, and what already has been. Arguably still Wilson's best output yet.
Portishead Dummy
Even though Massive Attack, Bjork, and a few others had beaten them to the punch in trip-hop's emergence, it was Portishead that was the first to make a true masterpiece out of the genre. Dummy is a subtly dark and harrowing work with outstanding production value that only thrived through the test of time.
Radiohead OK Computer
I wanted to not give this a 5 for the hell of it, but I just can't.
Refused The Shape Of Punk To Come
*Sees all The Shape of Punk to Come top description tags as Post-Hardcore* "Huh. Still
the best punk album ever probably."
Slint Spiderland
Went from a 4.5 to a 5 upon second listen. Every single note recorded is needed to make the songs what they are. Nothing excessive or unnecessary. The lyrics and vocals are so subtle and the instruments hide them, as if the songs know that atmosphere is more important than word. Why do you need to be TOLD what's going on if you can already FEEL it?
Sufjan Stevens Illinois
The more I listen to this album, the more I question my sexuality, my purpose, my life, this website's existence...
The Brave Little Abacus Just Got Back from the Discomfort...
Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly had a 99% chance of being the only album to get a 10/10 from me in this decade as I didn't have many albums to cover left in my end-of-decade rush. Having only seen the cover and hearing the genre this band was in, I figured it would be a decent Midwest Emo revival piece, nothing more. Besides the occasional hints of Cap'n Jazz influence, what I got was something I'd never come close to hearing before and I fell in love with all of it. Every moment on here is enjoyable in its own way and I already sense an infectous replay value in future months (even years!). This is looking to be my favorite emo record ever and it could go down as my favorite album of the 2010's.
The Mars Volta De-Loused in the Comatorium
I think the most impressive aspect of this album is how well Lopez and Zavala made the transition from At the Drive-In towards their own identity as The Mars Volta, adding more psychedelic and progressive moments, but not taking back a single punch they left with in Relationship of Command.
Tool Lateralus
I didn't think Tool could outdo Aenima, but boooyyyyyyy was I wrong.
Tool Ænima
"Third Eye" is still Tool's best song if u disagree ur wrong.
Unwound Leaves Turn Inside You
A lot of what I love about this record stems from the very high achievements of a record like Slint's Spiderland. Unwound's inherently rough and jagged style becomes a powerful asset with this album's graceful and nearly flawless approach to songwriting. This is a record poised for many, many listens and, in my opinion, it narrowly beats Refused's The Shape of Punk to Come as the greatest post-hardcore album ever made.
Wu-Tang Clan Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
The absolute best of 90's rap and an album that solely created several other successful careers from members within the clan.

Fear Before The Always Open Mouth
Blurb posted under the Secret Santa rec' contest by Tacos n' Stuff: This album should be set as a prime example of how to expand a signature sound without reaching over creative limitations or consistency interferences. In an analogy, The Always Open Mouth is like a perfectly aired-up balloon. All of the possible metalcore and post-hardcore influences are added to the thick air of its sound, but the balloon stays cleanly intact. Even for an album of these genres, the production is so damn raw. Maybe besides the drumming, every instrument, including vocals, is so diverse in ways made cleverly subtle due to the rawness of said production. The songwriting is excellent and the pacing is flawless. There are just a couple of nitpicks I have with a couple of the tracks and I don't think "Dog-Sized Bird" is that great. Despite that, this is one of the best albums of the new millennium and frankly one of the best I've ever heard. Skipping this is almost a crime. 9.5/10

I love how this album can take something like silly, yet interesting horror stories and just turn them into an absolute monster of an album. There's a sense of horrific atmosphere in every single moment of the album. Whether it's the acoustic or grandeur parts of the album, you still feel inside the story. Definitely a contender for AOTY btw.

Their best album yet. Not quite a masterpiece, but I think they can get there if they perfect this album's direction.

I can see why people get into this album, but, man, the emotion just feels so forced. The
production is also far too glittery and the constantly high-register keyboard gets
grating really quick.

Edit: It's a lot better on repeated listens. The emotions aren't as forced as I once made
them out to be, and it's actually a pretty good album. It's not outstanding or anything,
but much better than what I was giving it credit for at first.

It's still good stuff, but what would help is if you made some of the less structured songs (i.e. A Heretic, Ninth Age of Reclamation) more structured. Going for a electronic house-ish crossover with your usual material needs consistent tuning and song structure. The song examples I gave to you had too many random segues of totally contrasting material, and it only results in a song only feeling like random parts instead of a whole. Just some personal advice, but keep it up because I'm glad you're still trying to experiment with these impressive genre crossovers.

Vocals are infinitely better than their debut, and many of the riffs aren't as generic. It was
kinda odd to see only one clear clean vocal performance on here, but I found really interesting
was that the band seemed to add more instruments and different keys each song that went through.
Of course, that means the first couple of songs are kinda boring, put then the album becomes
great. On a side note, the lyrics are so much better than their album before.

Maybe it's just me, but one of the album's biggest feats is being disjointed and formulaic at the same time and that's not said in a positive connotation. However, it's far from terrible and there are extremely shiny bright spots here and there. BADNEW probably needs to groove to some sleep music or something idk, who cares.

What genre even is this? I know, in general, it's black metal, but it's like several different bands played on this album as a compilation. The amount of genre-shifting made my head hurt. Basically, I like the band's originality in their sound, but wow this doesn't work as an album.

I kinda disagree with the album dragging on. The first at least okay track on the entire album is "The Cool Calm". The opener alone made me want to "leave" this album, but I forced myself through and it got better. Sure, parts of latter songs feel similar to the earlier ones, but I ultimately liked where they headed. 2.5 sounds harsh for what I'm describing, but those first 4 tracks, especially when compared to the other songs here, are so poor I couldn't take these guys seriously at first.

Calvin Harris Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 1
This is about as close to actual funk as Calvin Harris is to quality music, which is really,
really far away from each other. The Chainsmokers had more heart, charisma, and decent
performances than this album could ever dream of, and that's quite a feat. Mr. Harris just needs
to go back to harmless EDM summer hits and rid himself from whatever this sound is.

Nostalgia Critic The Wall
Being the catatonic/schizophrenic version of Syd Barrett from the late 60's sounds
more fun and enjoyable than being aware that this exists. If Sowing were to give me

Soooo..... "Avoiding Filth" is the better track?... I've got nothing. This is like Sachiko M but instead, it's TWO hours long. The title track is similar to that earrape bass boost shit you hear on YouTube except your ears feel like they're actually being raped for an hour. The second hour is filled with lovely high-volume static with what sounds like random super slowed-down sounds in the background. Don't listen, don't sample, don't even act like this exists.
