Generally speaking, I'd say a lot of this band's strength is being slightly heavier with their pop punk, and in this case the practically ditched the pop punk aspect. Granted, it's still there in some areas, such as with Sour & parts of Filthy Rich (although not entirely). As for the sound they decided to go with, it works sometimes, with Filthy Rich being the highlight, but it doesn't work as well in other areas, like with Power (which I expected a lot more out of considering that they snagged Frank Carter) and Prick. rAs for why these particular songs don't work, I'd say a lot of it comes down to the writing (Power being the main example), although sometimes it comes down to the delivery (Shoot! being the one for me). Another issue would be the overall length, which granted, it's punk, so it being short isn't surprising, but considering half the EP isn't really that good for me (and I know this band can and has done better), it leaves me wanting more.rSo overall, if you were to listen to any songs from this, I'd go with Filthy Rich and Sour. Foreign Language isn't bad either and hell, you might even like Shoot! even though I wasn't too big of a fan of it. That being said, skip over Power and Prick. |
