Animals As Leaders The Joy of Motion
In 2014, Washington D.C. prog metal trio Animals As Leaders put out their 3rd studio album “The Joy of Motion”, which is a huge improvement, as compared to their early works: “Animals As Leaders” and “Weightless”. On “The Joy of Motion”, the consistence, energetic performance and masterful musicianship found on their previous two studio works are still present on this piece of work. Bassist and guitarist Tosin Abasi, lead guitarist Javier Reyes and drummer Matt Gartska create an unique record, where the intrincate metal performances and music complex structures are king (e.g: Ka$cade, Lippincott, Air Chrysalis, Tooth and Claw, Crescent). On the other hand, you may hear echos of smooth jazz a la Jeff Golub combined with Nuno Bettencourt-ish masterful guitar textures on Another Year. Physical Education shows a mix of funky basslines combined with strong underlying keyboards amidst. Other tracks worth to listen are The Future That Awaitied Me, Para Mexer, The Woven Web, Mind=Spun and Nephele.

Soda Stereo Cancion Animal
This is probably Soda Stereo`s best album next to Signos and Dynamo, in terms of greatness. With Cancin Animal, the Argentinean trio found themselves at the peak of its career (both in terms of popularity and music creativeness). Songs like De Musica Ligera, En El Septimo Dia, Un Millon De Aos Luz or Entre Canibales are must-listen tracks, whether you speak Spanish or not.

The Police Zenyatta Mondatta
Zenyatta Mondatta serves as the perfect bridge between Reggatta de Blanc and Ghost In the Machine. It is easily one of the best Police albums (if not the best, according to many fans). There are songs like "Don`t Stand So Close To Me and De, De , Do, Do, De, Da, Da, Da that received a heavy radio airplay and ther are other songs like Driven To Tears, When The World Is Running Down...., Canary In a Coalmine, Voices Inside My Head, Shadows In The Rain, the instrumentals Behind My Camel and The Other Way of Stopping and Man In A Suitcase that are musically speaking interesting and deserve some good listening. The band`s excellent musicianship, combined with a strong, inspiring songwriting and a good sense of humor and fun are the reasons why Zenyatta Mondatta is a must-listen album, whether you are a serious rock aficionado, an 80`s music lover or a casual Police fan and want to grab one or two studio albums from them.

The Police Reggatta de Blanc
Reggatta De Blanc is one of The Police`s finest albums that combined cutting edge punk with reggae music, wonderfully, in the way they did on its predessor debut Outlandos D`Amour. Message In A Bottle, Bring On The Night, Walking On The Moon and The Bed`s Too Big Without You are huge winners. But, we cannot miss out tracks like the semi-instrumental Reggatta De Blanc, It`s Alright For You, Deathwish, On Any Other Day (entirely written and sung by Stewart Copeland). Indeed, it is the only Police song where you can hear Stewart singing), Contact, Does Everyone Stare and No Time This Time. Every single track make this album worth listening.
Track-by-Track:
1. Message In A Bottle: 5/5
2. Reggatta De Blanc: 5/5
3. It`s Alright For You: 5/5
4. Bring On The Night: 5/5
5. Deathwish: 5/5
6. Waliking On The Moon: 5/5
7. On Any Other Day: 4/5
8. The Bed`s Too Big Without You: 5/5
9. Contact: 4.5/5
10. Does Everyone Stare: 5/5
11. No Time This Time:
Average rating: 4.86 stars
Key tracks: Message In A Bottle, Reggatta de Blanc, Bring On The Night, Walking On The Moon, The Bed`s Too Big Without You.
BOTTOM LINE: Reggatta De Blanc is an almost perfect piece of work that many Police fans love and that music critics and "experts" tend to underrate.

Yes Fragile
Yes Close to the Edge
Yes Relayer
“Relayer” is perhaps one of Yes´ most representative works of the 1970´s progressive years, due to the complexity of the songs, the musicianship provided by each member and, of course, Jon Anderson´s voice. For the first time, Rick Wakeman is not present on the line-up performing on this studio effort, leading the band members to hire Swiss keyboardist Patrick Moraz on a temporary basis, while Wakeman was away, working on other solo projects, most evidently his epic orchestral masterpiece “Journey To The Centre of The Earth”, released the same year as Relayer. But, even though Moraz was a very talented keyboardist, he could not excel Wakeman´s musical excellence. So, his tenure with Yes was short-lived. In spite of Wakeman´s on-off relationship with his Yes band mates, the band did a magnificent job here, equaling the likes of other previous works such as “In A Word” (1969-70), “The Yes Album” (1971), “Fragile” (1972), and “Close to The Edge” (1972). “The Gates of Delirium” and “Sound Chaser” are the major tracks to check out, due to the band´s complex performance rather than the length of each of them (Average length: 21-22 minutes). Anyone who is already familiar to other Yes classics should not be taken by surprise when listening to these tracks. This magnificent piece of work is also complimented with shorter tracks like “Soon” and “To Be Over”, and followed by an Edited version of Sound Chaser. Sound quality and digital remasterization: In 2006, Rhino, an EMI/Warner subsidiary, became responsible for improving the sound quality and doing the digital remasterization process of the original 1974 recording, which, IMHO, is very well-done and adapted to this masterpiece. Overall, it is a highly recommended item worth to be added to your music collection.

Saga (CAN) 20/20
Saga (CAN) Silent Knight
This seems to be Saga`s most criminally underrated masterpiece. The music, although produced in the early 80`s, is still great. Yes, probably, it is dated, but it is still a good album. Later on, Saga would eventually produce two wonderful albums: Worlds Apart (1981) and Heads Or Tales (1983). Silent Knight is a good introduction to Saga`s music and a nice way to get into symphonic prog in the way Saga did in the past and still does today. Album highlights include the overplayed classic "Don`t Be Late", "Time"To Go", "Compromise", "Help Me Out", "Someone Should" and "Careful Where You Step". So, there you go: an album that isn`t praised by music critics. But, it is a cult album among Saga fans and prog rock aficionados in general.
Track -by-track rating:
1. Don`t Be Late (Chapter Two): 5/5
2. What`s It Gonna Be?: 4,5/5
3. Time To Go: 4.5/5
4. Compromise: 4.5/5
5. Too Much To Lose (Chapter Seven): 4,5/5
6. Help Me Out: 4.5/5
7. Someone Should: 4.5/5
8. Careful Where You Step: 5/5
Average Rating: 4.62 stars.
Saga (CAN) House Of Cards
Saga (CAN) Heads Or Tales
This is a well-rounded piece of work that most music critics hate. As for Heads Or Tales, which was released in 1983, as the follow-up for the fan base favorite Worlds Apart (1981), features a series of great, well-crafted classic Saga tunes, such as The Flyer, Catwalk (featured here in two different versions: the album version everyone knows and the enhanced version included on the 2007 Remaster Edition), The Sound of Strangers, Social Orphan, Scratching the Surface and Pitchman. The Writing, Intermission and Helpless shall not be missed out
Track-by-track rating:
1. The Flyer: 5/5
2. Catwalk: 5/5
3. The Sound of Strangers: 5/5
4. The Writing: 4.5/5
5. Intermission: 4/5
6. Social Orphan: 4.5/5
7. Helpless (The Vendetta):4/5
8. Scratching The Surface: 5/5
9. Pitchman: 5/5
10. Catwalk (Enhanced Edition):5/5
Average rating: 4.7 stars.
Key tracks: The Flyer, Catwalk, The Sound of Strangers, Social Orphan, Scratching the Surface, Pitchman.
So, there you go!: a music masterpiece cherished by serious music fans and the Saga fanbase, but vastly underrated by music critics. If you love Saga, Heads or Tales is a must-buy.

The Police Outlandos d'Amour
Most debut albums are not as consistent as Outlandos D`Amour, The Police`s first studio album. It includes the classics Next To You, Roxanne, Can`t Stand Losing You, So Lonely and Truth Hits Everybody plus a bunch of underrated tracks such as Hole In My Life, Peanuts, Born In The 50`s, and the closing track Masoko Tanga. However, I can live without Be My Girl/Sally, which, while it is fun to listen to, it begins to get boring after some spins. Anyway, this is a must buy for any serious Police freak.
Track-by-track rating:
1. Next To You: 5/5
2. So Lonely: 5/5
3. Roxanne: 5/5
4. Hole in My Life: 3.5/5
5. Peanuts: 5/5

Average rating: 4.65 stars
Key tracks: Next To You, So Lonely, Roxanne, Can`t Stand Losing You, Truth Hits Everybody.
The Police Ghost in the Machine
Probably, Ghost In The Machine is more polished than Outlandos D`Amour and Reggatta de Blanc, in that there is some kind of sophistication in the air. Maybe, it is Hugh Padgham who had taken Nigel Gray`s place and introduced some elements that The Police had not used before on the previous studio albums: (e.g. addition of saxophones and keyboards, providing a progressive rock sound combined with some commercial catchy pop sounds). I must confess that the addition of saxophones and keyboards plus a sense of fun make Ghost In The Machine a daring album. Aside of the highlights Spirits In The Material World, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic and Invisible Sun, there are other tracks that most people tend to ditch out as fillers or forgettable, but , at the same time, they are not bad at all, such as Hungry For You (the one and only Police entirely sung in French with quite a few English verses), Demolition Man (a song that was later covered by Grace Jones and Manfred Mann`s Earth Band), Too Much Information, Rehumanize Yourself, One World (Not Three), Omegaman (check out Andy Summers`guitar work), Secret Journey and the closing track Darkness. If you are already into The Police, check this out .
Track-by-Track Rating:
1. Spirits In The Material World: 5/5
2. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic: 5/5
3. Invisible Sun: 5/5
4. Hungry For You (J`Aurais Toujours Faim de Toi): 4.5/5
5. Demolition Man: 3.5/5
6. Too Much Information: 4/5

Yes 90125
90125 is the album that many fans have embrace it and others, like the purist Yes fanbase, that tend to put it down. Yes made a risky move in the making of this album, since they were debating whether to remain an old sounding progressive rock stucked somewhere in the 1970`s or make their sound more accessible to the masses. Fortunately, for them, they chose the latter. But, unfortunately, for the old Yes fans, that risky move of jumping the mainstream bandwagon meant to be that the old Yes was gone and that their beloved band has sold out to the mainstream world. On the other hand, there was no place for Rick Wakeman or Steve Howe on this album to show their artistically-crafted abilities, which, IMHO, could be otherwise out of place. That is why, they hired the then-new guitarist Trevor Rabin and keyboardist (and original founding member) Tony Kaye , with Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass, backing vocals) and Alan White (drums) on board. The album itself offers a great deal of excellent songs with Owner of A Lonely Heart, It Can Happen, Changes, Cinema and Leave It as its key tracks. In the middle of all these, there are other songs worth checking out, such as Hold On, Our Song, City of Love and Hearts. BTW, there is an enhanced edition released by Rhino Entertainment in 2003 that included several bonus tracks, among them the previously unreleased "Make It Easy" and "It`s Over". Besides, All Music Rating is more than generous.
Track-by-track rating:
1. Owner of A Lonely Heart 4.5/5
2. Hold On: 4.5/5
3. It Can Happen: 5/5
4. Changes: 5/5
5. Cinema: 5/5
6. Leave It: 4.5/5
7. Our Song: 4/5
8. City of Love: 4.5/5
9. Hearts: 4/5
Average rating: 4.5 stars
Key tracks: Owner of a Lonely Heart, It Can Happen, Changes, Cinema and Leave It.
NOTE: The review and rating are based on the original 1983 9-track release.
BOTTOM LINE: 90125 is an album that offers a different view of Yes music: fresh, accessible sounding, simple-structured pop songs without any sort of pomposity or pretentiousness. If you love the 1980`s Genesis, Jethro Tull or Rush, this album is for you. Otherwise, if you are an old Yes fan, you better go somewhere else.

Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Having listened to their 3rd studio album "The Joy of Motion", I decided to check out their debut self-titled recording released by the Washington D.C.-outfit Animals As Leaders. The band, led by bassist Tosin Abasi, and completed by Javier Reyes on guitar and Matt Gartska on drums, offers an energetic performance, full of guitar riffs and solid drumming, which will eventually be present on subsequent studio outings. "Animals As Leaders" consists of a total of 12 songs, where Tempting Time, Soraya, Tessitura and Inamorata are the key tracks. Aside of this, there are other songs worth checking out, such as Throughly At Home, On Impulse-where Javier Reyes shows his best guitar textures and riffs-, Behaving Badly, The Price Of Everything And The Value Of Nothing, CAFO, Point To Point, Modern Meat and the closing track Song of Solomon.
Track-by-Track:
1. Tempting Time: 4.5/5
2. Soraya: 5/5
3. Throughly At Home: 4/5
4. On Impulse: 5/5
5. Tessitura: 4/5
6. Behaving Badly: 4/5
7. The Price of Everything and The Value of Nothing: 4.5/5
8. CAFO: 4/5
9. Imamorata: 4.5/5
10. Point To Point: 4/5
11. Modern Meat: 4/5
12. Song of Solomon: 4/5
Average Rating: 4.29 stars
BOTTOM LINE: We all know that not all debut albums are quite consistent, since several flaws may be found in its making process. That is not exactly the case of Animals As Leaders and its self-titled debut release. Consistence, energetic performance and masterful musicianship is what is found here. It is hard to find a flaw on this album. But, if there were any, it should be the repeatitive guitar riffs provided by Javier Reyes. Anyway, “Animals As Leaders”-the self-titled album- is good enough to listen to. Take this along with “The Joy of Motion”, which ranks as the band`s best release ever

Deluge Grander August In The Urals
I must admit that August In The Urals is a very structurally complex album, considering that Deluge Grander`s roots are traced back to the early 1970`s progressive rock scene, with King Crimson and-probably Emerson, Lake & Palmer and The Nice- as their major influences. It is an album that is hard to listen to by the first time -not easy to follow, BTW-. Some people may wonder: "How in the world am I going to face this monster?" Yeah, it is kind of intimidating, right? Even for the experienced prog rock ear, it is like climbing the Everest. But, if that experienced prog ear keeps his mind open to Deluge Grander`s music proposal, it will certainly work. The album consists of 5 tracks-3 long tracks: 1. Inaugural Bash (clocking around 27 minutes), 2. August In The Urals (15:51 mins), 3. Abandoned Mansion Afternoon (12:13 mins) and 2 shorter tracks: 4) A Squirrel (8:44 mins) and 5) The Solitude of Miranda (7:19 mins).
Track-by track rating:
1. Inaugural Bash: 5/5
2. August In The Urals: 4.5/5
3. Abandoned Mansion Afternoon: 4/5
4. A Squirrel: 4/5
5. The Solitude of Miranda:4/5
Average rating: 4.3 stars
Key tracks: Inaugural Bash, August In The Urals, Abandoned Mansion Afternoon.
Similar acts: King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Gösta Berlings Saga.
In short, pick this up and listen to it with an open mind-that is if you are true prog rock aficionado.
Deluge Grander The Form Of The Good
Genesis Trespass
"Trespass" is Genesis` first genuine progressive rock album. It is probably the most overlooked, misunderstood one in all the Genesis discography, since their debut outing "From Genesis To Revelation", which delved more into pop and psychedellic rock rather than into prog. This is where Peter Gabriel begins to shine as both the band`s lead vocalist and creative tour-de-force. Gabriel does not only provide a great voice, but also his ability to play the flute. Also notable is the contribution by Anthony Phillips on the guitar, John Mayhew on drums, Tony Banks in keyboards and Mike Rutherford on bass guitar.
One of its most notable songs is "The Knife". But, there are other 5 tracks that should be listened with an open mind: "Looking For Someone", "White Mountain", "Visions of Angels", "Stagnation" and "Dusk". Probably, music critics-especially those of All Music and Rolling Stone- are prone to put it down on their ratings and strat to talk nonsense, without actually listening to it.
Track-by-track rating:
1. Looking For Someone: 4/5
2. White Mountain: 4/5
3. Visions of Angels: 4/5
4. Stagnation: 4/5
5. Dusk: 4/5
6. The Knife: 4.5/5
Average rating: 4.08 stars
Key track: The Knife
Overall, Trespass is a vastly ignored and criminally underrated album by Genesis. If you are already a Genesis fan, this is something you should check out.

Saga (CAN) Behaviour
This album meant to be a risky move for Saga from symphonic (progressive) rock to a more catchy, radio-friendly pop/rock sound, at a time when some progressive rock bands (namely Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull) stopped creating some challenging music. Saga was not saved from this "mainstream wagon-jumping" phenomenon. As for this album, it is not a bad thing either, I have listened to it many times and I find it a very good album, not as great as its predecessor Heads Or Tales, but pretty close. The average rating on Behaviour may vary from 3 to 3 1/2 stars. I dare to aim higher and rate it 4 stars. If you are nuts about Saga, pick this up, ASAP.

The Police Synchronicity
How can I rate Synchronicity as compared to the previous albums? Well, many fans regarded it as The Police`s ultimate masterpiece, on the strength of pop-oriented hits such as Every Breath You Take, King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Fingers, and Tea in the Sahara. Now, why isn`t this album rated as high as 5 stars? It is very simple: the inclusion of Andy Summers` Ode to Oedipus Rex "Mother" . The song is almost unlistenable, considering that Andy`s voice is not the best, the lyrics are simply insane and the whole performance is just a mess. This is, by far, the worst Police song I`ve ever heard. However, you still got Synchronicity I and II (I absolutely love the video), Walking In Your Footsteps, O My God and, to a lesser extent, Miss Gradenko and Murder By Numbers to save the day.
Track-by- track rating:
1) Synchroncity I: 5/5
2) Walking In Your Footsteps: 4.5/5
