Pink Moon, the last studio album by Nick Drake, is also his absolute masterpiece. The only two instruments present in this album are guitar and piano, this, along with Drake's soft voice, creates a feel of intimacy between the artist and the listener, you can almost feel him near you. The album begins with the title track, a beautiful and apocalyptic song that sets the standards of the album. The following songs express the feelings and the thoughts of Nick Drake (not Mary Jane hehe) in a touching, beautiful and heartbraking way. Place to be is almost a seek for help and affection by someone who seems (and is) out of reach. Nick sings his distance from the ones who he would love being with, he sings his desperate need of having a place to be, having people around him who love him as much as he does; he sings his pessimistic thoughts about the evilness of people. Nick knew well that it was the end for him but his desparation is so peaceful that it hurts.
Pink Moon is a masterpiece (and also my favorite album ever), but you must connect with Drake to fully understand and love the beautiness of this piece of art. |
